私が直島の杉本博司ギャラリー「時の回廊」を訪れた際は、その静謐な空間に心が洗われるような感覚を味わいました。名称の通り、ここは時の流れを五感で感じることができる場所だと実感します。完全予約制なのでゆったりとした時間が保証されており、混雑を気にせずに落ち着いて鑑賞できる点も魅力です。受付でいただけるお茶とお菓子は、訪問者の緊張をほぐし、和の気配を一層深めてくれました。杉本博司氏の作品は、モダンアートでありながらも和の風情が息づいていて、建物自体も安藤忠雄の設計によるシンプルで美しいコンクリート造の建築。特に「聞鳥庵」というガラスの茶室は、光の反射と空間の透明感が印象的で、見る者を別世界へ連れて行きます。訪問前には撮影が動画NGであることを確認していましたが、写真撮影はほぼ自由だったため、思い出を写真に収めることができました。直島の他の美術館とは違い、ここは落ち着いて作品と対話できる場所としておすすめです。また、時間が合えば夕方の柔らかい光の中で散策すると、一層「時の回廊」のテーマが染み渡るような体験ができます。実際に訪れる際は時間に余裕を持って、ぜひ心静かに美術館の空間に浸ってみてください。
