Psalm 133:1
"Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!"
When we see each other, as believers in Christ, are we pleasant with one another?
We are, all in this together. The world can do what the world does best, currently in divide mode. But we have a higher calling. And we are no longer from here.
John 17:21 says
"that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me."
So, Jesus' prayer to the Father was for we as His followers "that they may all be one".
It was a direct intercessional prayer from the interceder Himself, which tells us how important it was to His mission while He was here.
But, simply put, it's not in our sinful nature to get along in harmony with each other. Evil has too many tricks up his sleeve to let us get away that easily. And he wants his share!
1 Thessalonians 5:11
"Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing."
Personally I've discovered as many of you have, that a strong weapon for our defense is "encouragement".
If we want to be unified and stay unified, while bringing others who hear like we hear into One in Jesus, then encouragement is the answer. Quarreling and bickering amongst ourselves, blurs the lines between Light and darkness.
So "encouraging one another and building each other up" needs to come naturally. Not a knee jerk reaction but an intentional effort to build people up. Needed or not needed, the worst thing that can happen is a smile...
That could be the last path to take on the long road to becoming One in Jesus!

It's so easy to feel isolated in a world that often seems determined to pull us apart, isn't it? I’ve personally found that feeling of belonging and genuine connection, like a group of people with arms around each other, watching a beautiful sunset over the ocean, is exactly what my soul craves. But how do we truly achieve that deep, lasting unity as believers? For me, it all starts with understanding who Jesus is, as beautifully articulated in John 14:6: "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." I used to think unity meant we all had to agree on every single minor theological point, which, let's be honest, felt impossible! But then I realized that our true common ground, our unshakable foundation, is Christ Himself. When I shifted my focus from trying to align perfectly on every interpretation to simply recognizing our shared identity in Him, a huge weight lifted. It’s like we’re all on different paths, but they all converge at the same glorious destination, through the same Way. This realization has been truly freeing and has helped me embrace fellow believers even when we see things a little differently. Speaking of differences, who hasn't struggled with navigating disagreements within the church? I know I have! It's so tempting to judge or feel superior when someone's convictions don't quite match your own. That's why Romans 14:5-6 (NIV) has become such a guiding light for me: "One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God." This passage reminds me that God values our personal conviction and faith. It's not about forcing everyone into a uniform mold, but about extending grace and understanding. I've learned that true unity isn't uniformity, but harmony amidst diversity. It means I can respectfully disagree with a fellow believer on certain practices, but still see them as a cherished part of God's family, knowing we both serve the same Lord. It’s about building bridges, not walls. And what about those times when you feel like you're floundering, questioning your faith or purpose? I’ve certainly been there. It’s in those moments that the truth of scriptures about God pursuing us becomes incredibly powerful. Think about the Prodigal Son, or the shepherd leaving the ninety-nine for the one lost sheep – God doesn't wait for us to be perfect; He actively seeks us out with relentless love. This deep understanding of His relentless pursuit inspires me to extend that same kind of grace and encouragement to others. If God is so committed to each of us, how can I not be committed to lifting up my brothers and sisters? It reminds me of the powerful call in 1 Thessalonians 5:11: 'Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.' So, how do we put this into practice every day? It doesn’t have to be grand gestures. Sometimes it’s just a kind word, a listening ear, or a simple text message checking in. I've found that being intentional about encouraging others not only blesses them but also fills my own spirit. It's about actively looking for opportunities to affirm someone's gifts, to pray for them, or simply to remind them of God's faithfulness. When we commit to truly build one another up and stand together, like that united group of people in the image, we create a powerful testament to Christ's love in the world. This collective effort strengthens our faith, creates resilient communities, and helps us all walk closer to God. Let's continue to be those beacons of encouragement for each other!
