"The Things Above"

Good morning VOD 🕊

"The Things Above"

Colossians 3.1

"If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God."

Being raised with Christ means wanting to know where I'm from... What's it like? What can be seen, and heard? What's my sensation... perception of the atmosphere surrounding me?

How bright is the Light of the world?

These are the things my spirit longs for... the only part left that remembers a home...

Creativity is imagined through splinters of creation... to draw near to God... is like remembering where Home is and letting my imagination take flight...

When my body wears out from the day to day struggle, I just pause to reflect upon the things that are above. It's my way of approaching His heavenly Throne.

"Draw near to God and He will draw near to you."...

And so, I do... I lean into the whispers of eternity, trusting that this longing is my true Home calling... it's promise of the glory to come, when my hidden life is revealed with Him in dazzling light.

Prayer;

"Lord, thank You for the gift of Colossians, for reminding me that my true citizenship is in heaven. When the world pulls me down, help me to look up, to set my mind on the things above, and to find strength in the life hidden with You. Strengthen my spirit to seek Your face, to imagine Your glory, and to live today as if I'm already there, until I see You face to face. Amen.".

... Read moreIn my own journey of faith, I have found that setting my mind on the things above, as Colossians 3:1 urges, is an essential practice to maintain peace and purpose in a chaotic world. This verse reminds me that my true identity and citizenship are not grounded in the temporary things of this earth, but rather in the eternal presence of Christ, seated at the right hand of God. When life’s daily stresses weigh heavily on me, pausing to reflect on these heavenly truths helps me realign my spirit. It’s like taking a deep breath in the middle of a noisy room—there is a calming clarity and renewed strength that comes from fixing my thoughts on the divine. This reflection is not just an abstract idea but a tangible experience, one that brings comfort, inspires creativity, and nurtures hope. The longing described as "my spirit longs for... the only part left that remembers a home" resonates deeply. I’ve often felt this in moments of worship or quiet prayer—an almost indescribable pull towards a reality beyond what my senses can perceive. Creativity, too, seems to be a pathway to this heavenly connection; through art, music, or writing, I glimpse the splinters of God’s original creation that ignite my imagination and bring me closer to His presence. Moreover, the prayer shared in the article beautifully captures the heart’s desire to live as if already in heaven, seeking strength and courage from a life hidden with Christ. I have found repeating such prayers helpful in cultivating a mindset that endures trials with a heavenly perspective, keeping discouragement at bay. Engaging with communities that embrace ideas like #HeavenlyMinded and #HiddenLifeInChrist provides encouragement and accountability. Sharing these spiritual insights with others deepens my understanding and reinforces the commitment to live with eternity in my heart. Overall, seeking the things above is more than a theological concept; it’s a daily, intentional practice that shapes how we see ourselves, our struggles, and our purpose in life. Through this mindset, I experience a profound sense of peace and anticipation for the glory to come, reminding me that though the body may wear out, my spirit is anchored in an everlasting home.
