Proverbs 13.13
"Whoever despises the word brings destruction on himself, but he who reveres the commandment will be rewarded."
Those who honor God's instructions are "rewarded," with wisdom, guidance, peace, and long-term security, like a "fountain of life... the verse offers a choice between taking the path of disregard... or the path of respect... leading to divine instruction.
This is a good cautionary verse for every non-believer who sees the Bible and determines it's an outdated rule book meant to keep order in society...
I know someone who is close to me, and thinks exactly that.. and he's not quite finished living life his way yet.
Ultimately he's running a fool's gambit... besides the fact you went through life carrying burdens you didn't nèed to, and the multitude of missed blessings, what would the consequences be to someone who knew there was a God, but never tried to find Him?

It’s understandable why some might view the Bible as outdated or restrictive, especially in a fast-paced world that values self-sufficiency and immediate gratification. However, I’ve found that God’s commands serve as a lamp to my feet—offering direction when the path feels uncertain and a reservoir of peace when anxiety threatens to overwhelm. Rather than limiting freedom, these teachings open doors to inner peace and wisdom. One powerful truth in Proverbs 13:13 warns of the destructive outcome for those who despise God’s word, reminding me often to reflect on the choices I make daily. This verse contrasts sharply with the promise that revering God's word leads to a fountain of life—symbolizing abundant blessings such as guidance, security, and spiritual fulfillment. When I see friends or loved ones neglecting spiritual growth and relying solely on their own understanding, I empathize deeply. It truly can feel like a fool’s gambit—taking risks without the wisdom of divine instruction. But prayer has been a meaningful way I support them, asking God to soften their hearts and reveal the gospel’s loving guidance rather than a burdensome law. Finally, Matthew 11:28-30 offers an invitation that has personally brought relief countless times: "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden..."
