"The Art of Seeing"
Proverbs 22:3
"The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it."
Wise people recognize risks and avoid them, while foolish people ignore warnings and suffer... this is the contrast between wisdom and foolishness in the face of potential trouble.
Prudent people are observant, cautious, and proactive, when they see danger. But the simple, naive or foolish people, never see it coming, and eventually face the consequences.
It very easy to be lulled into autopilot, becoming "oblivious" or "simple" by living on reflexes without any thought. When warning signs are not a concern...
Relationships with warning signs get ignored.
The financially "too good to be true" opportunities that pressure you to keep up, never stop hounding you, so self-control and wise budgeting are missed.
Emotionally ignoring symptoms of burn-out results in physical and mental exhaustion.
Taking refuge is being proactive, an often humbling, step. It means stopping when every impulse tells you to push harder. Yielding to pray, seek God and His wisdom, then pause for clarity...you may just end up shutting down a project that's heading the wrong direction, avoiding a move that compromises your faith, or selecting honesty over convenience.
Pray,
Lord, grant me the gift of prudence. Open my eyes to recognize the warning signs of danger, whether in my relationships, finances, or health. Give me the wisdom to stop, the courage to change direction, and the humility to take refuge in Your guidance, rather than walking blindly into trouble. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Reflection: What is the sign I am currently passing on autopilot that seems to keep calling for change? Where do I need to take refuge?
