"The Bullseye of Dishonest Gain"

"Good morning" 🕊 🕊 🕊

Ecclesiastes 8:12

"Although a wicked person... may live a long time, I know that it will go better with those who fear God..."

"Solomon highlights that despite the reality of injustice and the temporary success of evil... true, lasting security is found in revering God."

"He's just too mean to die!" Famous last words... yep! Onry and mean he even has a horseshoe nailed to his forehead, lucky scoundrel.

Have you ever been around success that looked and smelled like ultimate failure?

People who rise on the backs of others quickly, and reign from the top... yet show every sign of self-destruction? Midas touch turns muddy?

Dishonest gain is an ultimate cutting of one's own throat. It's like having an enormous bullseye painted on your forehead that's only visible to everybody but you.

Personally I won't obsess over anyone's prosperity... much less those who have sacrificed their soul for it.

My focus is on cultivating a heart that truly reveres God, and trusting His ultimate justice rather than worrying about immediate worldly results.

Pray;

Father, help me trust You even when I cannot understand why the world seems unfair. Grant me a heart that truly fears You and peace in the face of uncertainty. Amen.

Verses;

Ecclesiastes 8:12-13

"Though a sinner does evil a hundred times and prolongs his life, yet I know that it will be well with those who fear God, because they fear before him."

"But it will not be well with the wicked, neither will he prolong his days like a shadow, because he does not fear before God."

Psalm 73:2-3, 17

"But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled, my steps had nearly slipped.

For I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked...

until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I discerned their end."

Proverbs 10:2

"Ill-gotten treasures have no lasting value, but righteousness delivers from death."

Matthew 16:26

"What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?"

Romans 7:24

"Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?"

... Read moreIn my own journey, I've often struggled with the tension between witnessing the apparent success of dishonest individuals and maintaining faith in a just and meaningful life. The key takeaway from scriptures like Ecclesiastes 8:12-13 and Proverbs 10:2 is that outward prosperity achieved through wrongful means is ultimately hollow and fleeting. I've seen this truth play out in everyday life, where people who build their success on unethical foundations often face internal turmoil or eventual downfall, much like the 'muddy Midas touch' mentioned in the original article. What resonates deeply with me is the encouragement to cultivate a heart that reveres God rather than chasing worldly gains. This perspective helps me focus on my personal growth and integrity rather than comparing myself to those who may seem to rise quickly but lack lasting peace. Psalm 73 beautifully captures this internal conflict—the envy we sometimes feel toward the arrogant and the clarity that comes when we seek refuge in God’s presence. In practice, this means embracing patience and trusting that true security is spiritual rather than material. When I face moments of doubt or frustration about unfairness in the world, turning to prayer—as highlighted in the article—provides peace and strength. Praying for a heart that truly fears God and trusting His ultimate justice reminds me to let go of unhealthy obsessions with prosperity that compromises my values. Ultimately, the warnings from Matthew 16:26 and Romans 7:24 underline the importance of valuing the soul above all else. Life lessons and scripture together teach us that while dishonest gain may offer temporary advantages, lasting fulfillment comes from righteousness and faith. I encourage others to reflect on this wisdom in their own journeys and find comfort in the assurance that integrity and reverence for God lead to true well-being, even amidst life's uncertainties.

Here is a break down of 1 Peter 5:5–9 “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble” Meaning: God opposes the proud → Pride is a barrier to God’s blessings because it puts self above Him. Shows favor to the humble → Humility positions you to receive God’s grace, guidance, and help.
