While this particular OC wasn't a direct study of her style, I often find myself thinking about the strength and realism she brings to her anatomy, even in the most fantastical creatures. It’s about understanding how light hits muscles, how fabric drapes, and how to create a sense of weight and power. Studying artists like her, even just observing their finished pieces, can really push you to think about how to inject more life and believability into your own original characters. It’s all about building a visual library and drawing from diverse influences to make your unique vision shine. Creating a compelling fantasy OC isn't just about drawing well; it’s also about storytelling. What’s their background? What kind of world do they inhabit? Even in the line art phase, I try to hint at these elements through their pose, costume details, or expression. For instance, if they’re a fierce warrior, their stance might be more aggressive; if they’re a mysterious mage, perhaps their flowing robes and subtle hand gestures tell a story. Think about how Julie Bell often imbues her characters with such strong narratives through their visual presentation alone. That’s a level of artistry I truly aspire to in my own work.
