A couple of these are some spoods I’ve had, some are pretty new. I’m really excited to have sourced some of these guys honestly. I’ve been hoping to get a female jumping spider…got one. I was on the hunt for an OBT and found one. Oh that’s a story.
Collecting exotic spiders has been an exhilarating journey for me, especially when it involves tracking down rare species like the Orange Baboon Tarantula (OBT) and the female Regal Jumping Spider. Each spider has its own charm and personality, making the hobby endlessly fascinating. For example, the OBT, scientifically known as Pterinochilus murinus, is famous for its vibrant orange color and defensive nature. It’s quite a challenge to find a healthy specimen, so when I finally got one, it felt like a big accomplishment. The Brazilian Red Nhandu Carapoensis is another standout in my collection, admired for its impressive size and striking red hues. Jumping spiders like the female Phidippus regius are not only beautiful but also known for their curious and active behaviors. Their vibrant colors and incredible eyesight make them a favorite among exotic pet enthusiasts. I love observing their intricate movements and the way they interact with their environment. Other notable members in my collection include the Greenbottle Blue (Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens) sling, which sports stunning iridescent blue legs and a bright orange abdomen, and the Antilles Pink Toe (Caribena versicolor), a tarantula cherished for its pastel pink toes and gentle temperament. Having a variety of spiders like the True Pumpkin Patch dwarf (Hapalopus sp.) and the Yucatan Rust Rump (Tliltcatl epicureanus) adds diversity and showcases the fascinating differences across species. Each spider requires specific care tailored to its needs, which makes this hobby both a joyful challenge and a learning experience. In addition to their remarkable beauty, these spiders offer a window into the diverse world of arachnids. Sharing their stories and pictures allows others to appreciate these often misunderstood creatures and hopefully ignite a passion for responsible exotic pet keeping.
