Komodo boyyyy

Hey everyone! So, you saw my little Komodo dragon OC sketch, right? I'm so glad you liked my 'Komodo boy go brrrr' creation! I've been getting a few questions about how I came up with him, and honestly, creating original characters, especially animal-inspired ones, is one of my favorite things to do. For this guy, I really wanted to lean into the 'silly' side of things. Komodo dragons can look pretty fierce, but I thought, what if we gave one a really goofy personality? That's where the ':3' expression came from – trying to make him approachable and fun, rather than intimidating. When I'm sketching an animal OC like this Komodo dragon, I usually start by researching the actual animal. What are their unique features? For Komodos, it's their scales, forked tongue, and powerful build. Then, I think about how to exaggerate or simplify those features to fit a character design. For a 'silly' vibe, I might make the eyes bigger and more expressive, give them a slightly awkward posture, or even a funny accessory. This 'Komodo boy' just naturally developed a playful demeanor as I drew him, almost like he's saying 'brrrr' with excitement. If you're thinking about creating your own animal OC, here are a few tips that have helped me. First, pick an animal you genuinely find interesting! It makes the design process so much more fun. Second, decide what kind of personality you want them to have. Are they mischievous, grumpy, heroic, or super silly like my Komodo? This will guide your artistic choices. Third, don't be afraid to experiment with different styles. My sketch is quite cartoony, but you could go for a more realistic approach with a touch of character. And finally, sketch, sketch, sketch! The more you draw them, the more their personality shines through. I find that quick, loose sketches often capture the most energy, just like this initial 'Komodo boy' drawing.
