📍 Location: Lucayan National Park & Gold Rock Beach
🗺️ Description:
Lucayan National Park on Grand Bahama Island is famous for its extensive underwater cave system, one of the world's longest, and for showcasing all six of the Bahamas' ecosystems, including pine forests, mangroves, and the stunning Gold Rock Beach. Established in 1982, it protects the remains of the Lucayan people and offers boardwalks and trails to explore its diverse habitats, making it a key destination for eco-tourism and history enthusiasts.
Gold Rock Beach is a spectacular, secluded beach located inside Lucayan National Park on Grand Bahama Island, about 25 miles from Freeport. Famous for its crystal-clear shallow waters and "welcome mat" low tide, it's a filming location for Pirates of the Caribbean and requires a short walk over a mangrove boardwalk to reach.

buttttttt we booked our trip through 3b's taxi tours & transportation to get from our cruise port Celebration so for the 4 of us and two car seats it was $170 and that includes our amazing driver Winston that toured us through the park and took family photos, it also covered our entrance to the park!
⭐️ Rating: 1000/10
👀 Tips:
Time it for Low Tide: Walk the trails during low tide to explore the caves and fully experience the "caramel carpet" effect on Gold Rock Beach, when the receding water stretches for miles and reveals pristine sandbars
Explore the Caves: Take the short forest trail to view Ben's Cave and the Burial Mound Cave, both part of the extensive underwater cave network.
📝 Recommendations
Transportation: Because the park is on the eastern end of the island, a taxi can be costly. Renting a car or booking a guided tour provides the most flexibility! I highly highly recommend 3B’s. They were so great and perfect for our few hour family journey!

From my recent trip, I can attest that planning around the tide schedule makes a big difference. The low tide reveals extensive sandbars on Gold Rock Beach, known as the "caramel carpet," which stretches for miles and offers surreal views perfect for beachcombing and photography.
One of the highlights was exploring Ben's Cave, part of the vast underwater cave system considered among the longest worldwide. Walking the short forest trail to reach these caves felt like stepping back in time, especially knowing these sites preserve remnants of the Lucayan people, the original Bahamian inhabitants. I highly recommend wearing water-friendly shoes because some paths around the mangroves can be slippery.
Transportation is a crucial consideration. While taxis are readily available, their prices can quickly add up because the park is located on the island's eastern side. Renting a car grants more flexibility if you prefer exploring at your own pace. Alternatively, booking a guided tour like with 3B’s taxi tours proved invaluable. Our guide, Winston, enriched the visit by sharing local insights, navigating hidden spots, and even snapping memorable family photos. The package included park entrance fees, which made planning hassle-free.
For families, the park is very accommodating. Kids enjoyed spotting local wildlife and learning about the six ecosystems—the pine forests and mangroves especially fascinated them. The boardwalks and marked trails are easy to navigate with strollers and offer shaded areas to rest.
Finally, keep in mind that this park is not just a recreational site but a protected area supporting local biodiversity and cultural heritage. Visitors are encouraged to respect wildlife and avoid disturbing natural habitats. This eco-conscious approach ensures Lucayan National Park remains a pristine destination for future travelers. Whether you're an avid spelunker, beach lover, or history buff, this park offers diverse attractions that surely enrich your Bahamas itinerary.
