HOW TO TRAVEL MILAN IN OFF PEAK

Low season in Europe is so underrated!!! Flights are cheaper, accommodation is cheaper, tours are cheaper. There are far less tourists in areas typically swarming with them.

The one main downside is that some shops take breaks in winter and are closed but there are plenty of others open because Milan is the city hub! Super recommend visiting Milan and travelling out to the smaller towns. ✈️

Milan

... Read moreTraveling to Milan during the low season can truly transform your trip. From personal experience, booking accommodations like a one-bedroom apartment near Stazione Centrale can save you substantially compared to peak-season prices. I stayed at ViVi2 Suite, which was not only centrally located but also very affordable around $193 per night, a steal compared to typical spring rates. Getting around is also convenient: the train from the airport to the city center costs about $45-$50, and you can easily book tickets on Trip.com ahead of time. Milan’s public transport system makes exploring nearby smaller towns a breeze, offering a great way to dive into authentic Italian culture away from tourist hotspots. Don’t miss out on the food scene—even in low season, spots like Luini for panzerotti and Adolfo Stefanelli for mini desserts are worth the visit. These local delights, such as fluffy cream-filled buns or the savory panzerotti, bring warmth and flavor especially on chilly days. For sightseeing, places like Duomo and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II are still bustling despite fewer tourists; they offer excellent photo opportunities. A highlight of my trip was catching a live football match at San Siro Stadium—an unforgettable cultural experience. If you love scenic train rides, consider the Bernina Express or its regional train alternative, which offers stunning views of snow, glaciers, and lakes between Milan and St Moritz without the hefty price tag. Lastly, if your visit coincides with the festive period, Milan’s Christmas markets are magical, with mulled wine, carols, and bright lights creating a cozy atmosphere. Even the pricey rides are worth trying just once! In summary, traveling Milan off-peak makes for a richer, less crowded, and more budget-friendly adventure. With thoughtful planning and a willingness to explore beyond the usual spots, you can experience the authentic charm of Milan and surrounding areas without the high-season hassle.
