How I Landed My First Marketing Job⬇️

I didn’t start my marketing life as a Marketing Manager running trade shows and campaigns. My first job in marketing came after a career pivot. I switched grad school programs from Marriage & Family Therapy to Exercise Science + Marketing.

I had no “perfect resume,” no years of experience, and I definitely didn’t feel confident. What I did have was:

✅ a willingness to learn everything (content, social, email, events)

✅ TONS of proof I could juggle a million things at once

✅ a portfolio of small projects I built just to practice

That first role paid $12/hour. Not glamorous, but it gave me my first taste of the industry.

Fast forward to now… I run a handful of social media accounts, handle all content creation, trade shows, website design, email campaigns, AND Amazon/Shopify sales… all as a one-person marketing team. Some days it’s overwhelming, but I wouldn’t trade the experiences I’ve had!

🎯 If you’re stuck wondering how to “break in” to marketing, here’s my biggest lesson: don’t wait for permission. Build your own portfolio with whatever you’ve got, personal projects, school projects, even mock campaigns. Show your potential, not just your past.

Have you landed a job in a field you didn’t start in? I’d love to hear your story 👇

How I ACTUALLY landed my first remote job 💻
It seems kind of obvious how to land a remote role when you're in one, but I can imagine if you've never had a remote or desk job, it can seem like an abstract cloud of unknown. Like where do you begin? To be honest, you just need the same skills and experience as you would any desk job.
