Why I don’t follow trends

1. Trends makes us insecure on what we truly like to wear

2. It creates social hierarchies and exclude people who can't afford to follow it

3. Trends make us forget what makes us comfortable and who we are. Hello?!!… What about those of us who like to change our style and try new things?! One min i feel like a rocker, next Clair huxtable. Don’t put me in a box NIKKA!

4. It 👏🏽stifles 👏🏽creativity 👏🏽and originality👏🏽.

5. My styles the best… just like yours and theirs… nobody can be you. Besides, what fun is it looking like everyone else?

From my experience, the fastest way to feel confident and comfortable is to dress in a way that truly represents you rather than chasing every new trend on social media. While platforms like Instagram and TikTok flood us with the latest styles—from matching workout sets to the hottest sneakers—the pressure to keep up can be exhausting and expensive. I’ve found that investing time in discovering your own style can be much more rewarding than impulsively buying trendy pieces. For example, instead of searching for the best plus-size outfits based on discount codes or reviews, I've focused on brands that offer quality and affordable basics that suit my everyday comfort. Layering pieces thoughtfully, whether it's men's shirts or workout sets, can create versatile looks that express your personality without the need to follow every seasonal hype. Also, buying classic items like white sneakers online from trusted stores or exploring accessories such as gold hoop earrings in trending colors allows you to add flair on your terms. Embracing this approach not only helps avoid the social divides caused by trend exclusivity but also nurtures creativity and originality. It's about mixing, matching, and evolving your look day by day—sometimes one minute feeling rocker-chic, the next channeling a classic vibe—without being boxed in by anyone else's idea of what's fashionable. Ultimately, cultivating genuine self-love means wearing what makes you feel best, unapologetically.
