how to stop binging and lose weight
as someone who has struggled with both binge eating and weight gain, i know how hard it can be to heal yourself mentally and care for your body. it’s hard to let go of restrictive eating patterns that lead to binges while also trying to maintain a healthy weight.
you think that the best thing for you is to let go of restrictive behaviors but when you do that it feels like the binges take over even more because end up letting go of control all together.
the secret is to find balance in the way that you eat.
but this is true only if you are in a good place mentally. if you still have mental work to do around why you restrict or binge or if you have other underlying mental health problems… please seek professional help! i’m not a professional, i’m just sharing the things that have helped me AFTER doing the hard internal work with a professional!
that being said, this is how i’ve found balance since then:
✅ never allowing hunger to take over
i eat three full meals a day with 2-3 snacks. these meals are high in protein and fiber. i keep healthy snacks on hand at all times so i don’t end up reaching for low volume, high calorie snacks.
some of my favorite substitutes for higher calories foods are:
Milk chocolate > dark chocolate
Chips > Popcorn
Soda > Naturally sweeten soda or tea
Ice cream > Greek yogurt
Candy > fresh fruit
*none of these foods are inherently good or bad, some just make you feel fuller for fewer calories!
✅ eat high calories foods only when you are close to full
sweet and high calories foods are not the devil. they can be a part of a healthy diet but eating them only when you are close to full prevents you from overindulging in these foods. if you reach for those foods when you are starving, you’ll find it impossible to stop eating them.
➡️ remember, food is not the enemy! its fuel that allows you to live the life you want. some foods make you feel better than others. choose the food that makes you feel both mentally and physically your best!

Binge eating is a challenging phenomenon that affects many people, and understanding the underlying causes can help in managing it effectively. It's essential to recognize that restrictive diets often lead to cycles of binge eating. Instead of focusing on severe restrictions, consider adopting a more holistic approach to your eating habits. Focus on mindful eating techniques, which involve paying close attention to the food you consume and developing an awareness of hunger and fullness cues. Incorporating nutrient-rich foods into your diet can also play a significant role in curbing binge eating. Foods high in fiber, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, can help you feel fuller for longer, reducing the urge to binge. Additionally, maintaining balanced meals that include protein, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates can support stable energy levels and mood regulation, further minimizing the likelihood of binge episodes. Psychological factors often contribute to binge eating behaviors as well. Engaging in self-reflective practices, such as journaling or guided meditation, can assist in identifying triggers and developing healthier coping mechanisms. If you find that stress, anxiety, or other emotional challenges are prompting your eating habits, it may be beneficial to seek support from mental health professionals. Lastly, it is vital to change your perspective on food. Consider food not just as sustenance but as a source of enjoyment and pleasure. When you allow yourself to enjoy a variety of foods, including the occasional treat, it creates a healthier, more sustainable relationship with food overall. Remember, the journey to balance takes time and self-compassion.
