My bank gives me free money 💸

Lemon8 has made a challenge, and now I feel empowered to give unsolicited financial advice 🤣🤣 Btw not really trying to win, I promise I won't spam you guys with finance related stuff

💸 Today I will be talking about high yield savings accounts!

• A high yield savings account is just like a regular savings account, except that each month you get a small percent of compounding interest added (aka free money 🤑)

• It is usually around 4-8%, and can vary based on how much money you started the account with, and if you are willing to commit to locking money in the account.

• Personally, I get 4.5% and I can take the money out and move it to and from my main spending account whenever I want.

• It's a nice little boost to see my savings grow! a/And if you aren't doing this, you are actually LOSING money due to the rate of inflation.

❤️ Anyways, If you haven't heard of it, I hope it helps! definitely worth a few minutes research into what local banks offer it for you.

I think this challenge is just a random drawing? but there are few more topics I could share about including:

- domestic partnership

- health savings accounts

- girls going into tech

So let me know do you are interested in these topics too!

... Read moreHey everyone! Following up on my earlier post about how much I love my high-yield savings account, I’ve seen some of you asking about specific banks, especially if you have a Wells Fargo account. It’s a super valid question because while the idea of 'free money' from interest sounds amazing, finding the right account for you is key! First off, it’s true that many traditional, larger banks, including giants like Wells Fargo, often offer lower interest rates on their standard savings accounts compared to the rates my high-yield account delivers (like my 4.5%!). Don't get me wrong, they're great for everyday banking, but when it comes to making your savings truly grow, you might need to look a little deeper or even outside your primary bank. So, if you’re a Wells Fargo account holder, here’s my money tip: don't assume you can't get a better rate! Your first step should always be to check Wells Fargo's current offerings. Sometimes, they have special promotional rates or different types of savings accounts you might not be aware of. You can usually find this information directly on their website, by logging into your online banking, or by simply giving their customer service a call. Ask specifically about high-yield savings options or money market accounts, as these are often designed to offer better returns. However, if Wells Fargo's rates aren't quite hitting the mark for your savings goals, don't feel stuck! This is where many of us, myself included, look to online-only banks. These institutions often have lower overheads, which allows them to pass those savings on to us in the form of higher Annual Percentage Yields (APYs). Some popular online banks known for competitive high-yield savings accounts include Ally Bank, Discover Bank, Marcus by Goldman Sachs, and Capital One 360. I personally love the flexibility of accessing my funds whenever I need them, and many of these online banks offer similar convenience. When you're comparing options, remember it's not just about the highest APY. Also consider: Minimum Balance Requirements: Do you need a certain amount to open the account or to earn the advertised rate? Fees: Are there monthly maintenance fees that could eat into your earnings? Many online HYSAs are fee-free. Accessibility: How easy is it to transfer money in and out? Look for quick electronic transfers (ACH). FDIC Insurance: Always ensure your money is FDIC-insured up to $250,000 per depositor, per institution. This protects your savings even if the bank fails. Doing a bit of research into what each bank offers can really pay off. It’s all about empowering yourself to get the most out of your hard-earned money. Even if your main checking account is with a traditional bank like Wells Fargo, there's no rule against having a separate high-yield savings account elsewhere to maximize your interest earnings! Hope this helps you on your journey to growing your savings superpowers!
