Should I move out?

I hadn’t eaten a thing at work, so I kept thinking about the roast dinner my parents said would be waiting. That promise got me through the last hour. But when I walked in. Let’s just say it wasn’t exactly what I imagined. For context, I pay $800 a month in rent to live here, and that’s supposed to cover food. Guess “roast dinner” means something different to them than it does to a person who’s been on their feet for half a day. Now I’m overthinking, do they even care? Are they just being careless, or is this a sign I should move out?

2025/7/29 Edited to

... Read moreExperiencing disappointment after a hard day’s work, especially when expectations like a comforting meal are not met, can be emotionally challenging. In this case, the author paid $800 monthly rent, which includes meals, expecting a hearty 'roast dinner' after a 12-hour shift. However, the reality fell short, sparking concerns about their living situation and care from their parents. This scenario highlights common issues renters face when balancing financial commitments with personal needs. Understanding 'rent expectations' is crucial, especially when meals are part of the agreement. If the quality or quantity of food consistently disappoints, it might signify underlying problems in how your contribution or wellbeing is valued. Moreover, feeling overlooked or uncared for, especially at home, can significantly affect mental health. Asking whether this incident is a sign to move out invites reflection on broader themes like respect, independence, and self-care. Moving out can provide autonomy and ensure your living standards meet your needs. If you’re unsure, consider these steps: communicate openly about your concerns and expectations, assess your financial stability to handle independent living, and seek support from friends or counseling for emotional clarity. Remember, your well-being is paramount; a home should provide comfort and respect, not just shelter. By recognizing 'work hunger struggles' and 'post-shift disappointment,' you can make informed decisions about your living arrangements, ensuring your efforts at work translate into a supportive and nurturing home environment.

Take your 800 a month and move out ! This is the sign! $800 a month is a lot to be living with family! You can do it on your own!

that's unfreaking believable you pay $800 to live with your parents. I disagree with you having to pay to live with them at all but I could understand like $200 or $300. The fact that you worked a 13 hour shift and then they think THIS will fill you up ?! that's ridiculous. For shame they need to be ashamed. For what you pay to live there with them that should surely cover food
