nothing gets me hooked quite like a bargain that you just KNOW is going to end badly (yikes). it just immediately gets my heart pounding (and i can’t help but think about what i might try to bargain for).
i feed her to the beast and the beast is me is a bit of a villain origin story, but trust me, you’ll be rooting for her to take down her competitors the whole way through.
others in the Parisian ballet scene aren’t ready to a Black girl to take center stage … but then she finds a river of blood underneath the city and decides to exchange anything and everything for power.
and death’s country is written in verse, which always excites and delights me! it’s a really sweet story about love and family and it’s got lots of winks and nods to other stories.
this features a polyamorous trio, which I haven’t really seen a lot of elsewhere in young adult literature! it’s definitely giving Hadestown vibes, and if you love … well, love, and mythology, and terrifying journeys, then you’re going to be into it.
