you NEED these summerween books!
i know that spooky season is fall, but there’s nothing i love quite as much as picking up something a little bit terrifying in the heat of summer! both of these books have warm weather settings, so it works even better.
the blonde dies first is satirical and there are lots of winks to classic slashers, but also an investigation into the genre and its tropes. it’s got a big theme of sisterhood and the main character is queer! i couldn’t stop turning pages and it was genuinely funny as well.
where echoes die is thrilling, too, but it’s also a bit more tender. there’s also a central sister relationship, but a lot of the plot revolves around grief and dealing with the loss of a parent. it was interesting and moving and i think about it a lot.
