would you go to a pride book fair?
this was the second annual pride book fair (organized by threads) in nyc, and i was SO excited to get to attend!
the vibes were scholastic book fair-ish, EXCEPT everything was free!!! you got to walk around a room with different booths from publishers and bookstores and pick up books and merch.
there were also a bunch of panels and readings and author signings, and even an after party!
this was such a special event celebrating queer voices during a time where book bans and hatred are on the rise, and i was so grateful to have the chance to experience it.

The Pride Book Fair is a powerful celebration of LGBTQ+ literature and community engagement, especially significant during times when queer content faces increasing challenges such as book bans and social hostility. Organized by Threads in New York City, this event brings together a diverse array of publishers, bookstores, and authors to provide a welcoming space where attendees can access free books and exclusive merchandise. The fair's atmosphere mirrors that of a traditional scholastic book fair but stands out thanks to its commitment to inclusivity and representation. One of the distinctive features of the Pride Book Fair is its programming beyond book giveaways. Attendees can participate in panel discussions, listen to author readings, and get books signed, fostering direct connections between readers and creators. The event culminates with an after party, providing a vibrant social space celebrating queer culture and literature. Notably, the fair features specialized booths such as the Nonbinary Book Bike, highlighting the presence and importance of nonbinary representation within the literary community. The inclusion of such unique initiatives underlines the fair’s dedication to broadening the spectrum of queer voices represented. Events like the Pride Book Fair serve a dual function: they not only promote queer literature but also stand as acts of resistance against censorship and discrimination. By providing free access to books that reflect diverse queer experiences, the fair challenges the rising tide of book bans and fosters community resilience. For readers and allies alike, attending such events offers an invaluable opportunity to engage with authentic queer narratives, support marginalized creators, and celebrate queer history and culture. As Pride Month continues to inspire awareness and activism, fairs like this one play a crucial role in amplifying voices that might otherwise be silenced. Whether you are a passionate reader, a supporter of LGBTQ+ rights, or simply curious about queer literature, the Pride Book Fair presents a unique chance to immerse yourself in a dynamic space of learning, celebration, and solidarity.
