But guess what? Drawing anime on IbisPaint X doesn't have to be complicated, and I'm here to share how you can make your own 'easy anime drawings' too! When I started this particular drawing, my main goal was to create something fun and relatively quick, showcasing how accessible anime art can be. IbisPaint X is fantastic for this because it's packed with features that help beginners. For instance, the ruler tools – especially the symmetry ruler – can be a game-changer for getting those perfect face shapes or symmetrical character designs without too much struggle. Don't be afraid to use them! Let's break down how you can approach an 'easy anime drawing' on IbisPaint X: 1. Start with a Simple Sketch: Don't stress about perfection at this stage. Think basic shapes. An oval for the head, lines for the neck and shoulders. Use a light brush or pencil tool with low opacity. For anime characters, big eyes and a small mouth are common, so start by placing those general shapes. You can even use reference images – it’s not cheating, it’s learning! 2. Refine Your Lines with a New Layer: Once your sketch looks decent, create a new layer above it. Now, choose a darker pen (like the Dip Pen (Hard) or Digital Pen) and carefully trace over your sketch, making your line art clean. This is where the 'Force Fade' setting on your brush can help make your lines look smoother and more professional at the ends. Remember to adjust your brush size; thinner lines often look more 'anime'. 3. Flat Colors First: Create another new layer, placing it below your line art layer. Use the bucket tool (fill tool) to quickly block in the main colors for your character's skin, hair, clothes, and eyes. Don't worry about shading yet, just get the base colors down. This 'drawing' process becomes much simpler when you tackle it in phases. 4. Simple Shading for Depth: This is where you add life to your anime drawing! On a new layer above your flat colors but below your line art, pick a slightly darker shade of your base color. Think about where your light source is coming from and add shadows accordingly. For an 'easy' approach, focus on key areas like under the hair, below the chin, and on folds of clothing. You don't need complex rendering for a great effect. The clipping mask feature in IbisPaint X is super helpful here – it ensures your shadows only appear on the color layer directly below it! 5. Add Highlights and Details: On yet another new layer, add small highlights to the eyes to make them sparkle, or a subtle shine to the hair. These tiny details can really elevate your overall drawing.
