My favorite street for a photo op in Chicago

Looking up La Salle St. from 141 W Jackson (Chicago Board of Trade Building) is one of my favourite streets for a photo opportunity and a great view in Chicago! I feel like every time I pass by here on a morning or afternoon walk, the stop to soak up the view is essential.

It’s also a gorgeous street to drive down as it feels enclosed by the Chicago board of trade building!

Chicago Board of Trade Building
2025/8/4 Edited to

... Read moreIf you've ever found yourself wandering through Chicago's bustling financial district, you've likely felt the awe-inspiring grandeur of La Salle Street. It's not just a thoroughfare; it's a living canvas, especially for urban photography enthusiasts. My personal experience has shown me that this street truly comes alive, offering endless possibilities for capturing that perfect shot, whether you're a seasoned photographer or just looking for a memorable selfie. Beyond the iconic view from 141 W Jackson, where the Chicago Board of Trade Building majestically frames the street, there are so many nuances to discover. I've often found that early mornings or late afternoons offer the most magical light. The golden hour casts long, dramatic shadows that highlight the intricate details of the tall buildings, making them pop. Imagine standing with your back to the camera, just like in some of my favorite shots, letting the grandeur of the architecture stretch out before you. The American flags, often fluttering proudly from the buildings, add a dynamic splash of color and a sense of patriotism to any composition. Don't be afraid to experiment with different angles – sometimes looking straight up emphasizes the sheer scale, while a wider shot captures the entire street's impressive depth. For those planning a photo shoot, consider your attire to complement the urban backdrop. I often opt for comfortable yet stylish outfits – a white crop top and brown shorts, for example, can stand out beautifully against the grey tones of the city. Think about poses too; sometimes a simple walk, or turning to smile at the camera as cars pass by, can create a natural, engaging photograph. The street isn't just about static shots; it's about capturing the energy of Chicago. La Salle Street isn't just an isolated photo op; it's part of a vibrant district. After you've captured your perfect shots, take some time to explore the surrounding architecture. The Rookery Building, with its stunning light court, is just a short walk away and offers an entirely different, equally photogenic experience. You could also grab a coffee from a local cafe and simply people-watch, soaking in the city's rhythm. Don't forget to look for reflections in windows and puddles after a rain shower – they can add another layer of artistic interest to your urban photography. Making a day of it truly enhances the experience and provides even more unique photo opportunities within Chicago's impressive financial heart. It’s a place that keeps giving back to the lens, every single time.
