3 Days in Chicago: Must-Visit Spots

Thinking about a Chicago getaway but not sure when to go or what to prioritize? I recently did a fantastic 3-day trip, and I’ve got some extra tips to help you make the most of your adventure! First off, the best time to visit Chicago really depends on what you're looking for. I went in late spring, and the weather was absolutely perfect for walking around and enjoying the iconic views. Summer is vibrant with festivals, but it can get quite hot and crowded. Fall offers beautiful foliage and cooler temperatures, while winter, though chilly, has its own charm with holiday lights and fewer tourists. If you want to really experience the city's outdoor activities and lakefront, aim for May to September. For iconic views I must see, beyond just the general skyline, I highly recommend an architectural boat tour on the Chicago River. Seeing the city from the water, with those tall city buildings towering above you, gives such a unique perspective! You'll learn so much about the history behind the magnificent architecture. Another absolute must is visiting Millennium Park to see "The Bean" (Cloud Gate) and then heading up to one of the observation decks like Skydeck Chicago at Willis Tower for panoramic vistas. These spots truly capture the essence of Chicago's skyline views. When it comes to iconic eats, everyone talks about deep dish, and for good reason! But don't stop there. I stumbled upon some incredible hot dog stands and Italian beef sandwiches that are just as much a part of Chicago's culinary identity. Exploring the different neighborhoods, you’ll find so many diverse culinary experiences that go beyond the usual tourist traps. Make sure to try a few different places to get a real taste of the city! To truly explore Chicago and uncover some neighborhood gems & local culture, wander through areas like Lincoln Park, known for its beautiful park, zoo, and quaint streets. Or check out Old Town for its historic charm and comedy clubs. I also loved spending an afternoon along the lakefront, soaking in the classic experiences of Lake Michigan. Renting a Divvy bike is a fantastic way to cover ground, especially along the lakefront paths. The CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) is super efficient for getting around the city center and to different neighborhoods, so don't be afraid to use public transport! Making the most of 3 days in Chicago really comes down to smart planning. Group your activities geographically each day to minimize travel time. For instance, dedicate one day to the Loop and River North for architectural marvels and museums, another to the lakefront and museum campus, and a third to exploring a vibrant neighborhood like Wicker Park or Lincoln Park. This way, you get a good mix of top tourist attractions and a feel for the local vibe, ensuring your Chicago getaway is packed with amazing memories without feeling rushed.
