It’s more than just a meal; it’s a vibrant cultural experience that fuels you for the day ahead. One of the staples you’ll find on almost any Peruvian breakfast table is bread, or *pan*. But it's not just any bread! You'll often see pan francés (a crusty baguette-style bread) or pan de yema (a softer, slightly sweet roll). These are usually enjoyed with a variety of fillings. My go-to is often *pan con palta*, which is simply bread with creamy mashed avocado, sometimes seasoned with a little salt and a squeeze of lime. Other popular choices include pan con queso fresco (fresh white cheese), pan con huevo (scrambled or fried egg), or pan con jamón del país (a flavorful, spiced country ham). Beyond the bread, Peruvians love their heartier breakfast dishes, especially on a crisp autumn or windy morning when you need something substantial. One of the most iconic traditional Peruvian breakfast foods is the *tamal*.
