Oh how fun was our first Winter in Alaska! It’s crazy to think about how much has changed since then. #onthisday
Living through our first winter in Alaska was truly an unforgettable experience filled with both fun and unexpected surprises. One moment that still makes me laugh was realizing that the path left by the sled dogs' footprints and waste was taller than our child! This quirky reality highlights how unique life can be in such a remote, snowy environment. Alaska winters bring a distinct rhythm to daily life—not only because of the freezing temperatures but also because of the beautiful snow-covered landscapes and community activities that revolve around the snow. From sled dog racing and ice fishing to simply enjoying the quiet serenity of a white wilderness, every day offers something new. Adjusting to the long nights and cold days was initially challenging, but it also encouraged us to find creative ways to stay active and connected with nature. We started joining local winter festivals and learned the importance of layering clothes and preparing homes for the extreme cold. One key takeaway from our first Alaskan winter is embracing the unpredictable elements. Whether it’s the awe-inspiring northern lights dancing in the sky or the humorous struggles with snow-obstructed trails, each moment enhanced our appreciation for this unique environment. I would recommend anyone moving to or visiting Alaska in winter to keep an open mind, prepare well, and enjoy the extraordinary adventure it offers.
