⋆˚꩜｡working >10 part time job in my teens & rating them
i started working part time jobs at 14 years old @ mcd to earn some extra cash because my parents taught me the importance of saving up! i guess that kinda made me q stingy w my money too but im trying to grow out of that mindset as i grow older :)
here ill rate all my jobs (some of them were concurrent) & what i learnt from them!
1. f&b 4.5/10
- mcd, subway, sear steakhouse, icebar, sakae sushi, banquet, dgoodcafe, a kpop cafe, kpo cafe & bar
𝜗ৎ being the hustler i was and getting my food safety cert from mcd at 14, i LOVED doing f&b because i didn’t even have to pay for meals HAHAH
but some places the management was rlly bad and honestly i think i learnt my ability to handle stress from here LOL, i also learnt how to talk to strangers with these being my first few jobs because i used to be rly scared of talking to strangers. especially working at places that involved alcohol as a teenage girl, i really had to learn how to protect myself the hard way. and if i could go back in time i probably wouldn’t have done any jobs related to alcohol
2. retail 6/10
- cotton on kids, ntuc cashiering, flyer distribution
𝜗ৎ this was q chill actually and realised i’d been slaving away at f&b after trying retail LOLL but i guess i cant speak for all retail jobs since i haven’t worked at much
3. healthcare 8/10 (current)
- clinic assistant, nursing locum
𝜗ৎ this is such a learning opportunity! was exposed to different conditions that people present at the gp with, and learnt to prioritise well :)
nursing locum is good for quick cash because each shift is 13 hours long! and i prefer working long hours
4. random adhoc event jobs 5/10
- beer pourer at a liverpool match in sg HAHAHA, registration at another event
𝜗ৎ i didn’t even know how to open the beer bottle so i was shooting the cap everywhere and once, it even landed in the customer’s drink🥹😛 but with the right attitude, WE LEARN 😛
in all, im grateful that my parents instilled in me good money habits & the importance of earning my own money so i don’t splurge and i learn the value of money at a young age! now, im learning to be more generous w my money, and to not store up my earthly treasures :-)
and i’m also trying to learn how to invest instead of hustling at these part time jobs! i think the most important thing is finding a balance between working hard & working smart 🌟to let ur money work for itself too!
as tough as some of these jobs were, i learnt so much from these jobs that carry on into my adult life and help me to not live with a naive mindset~
and i’m so thankful that i can now fund my own travels and lifestyle
Working multiple part-time jobs as a teenager gives more than just a paycheck—it’s an incredible opportunity to develop life skills and financial discipline early on. Having taken on a variety of roles from fast food service to healthcare, I’ve realized how diverse experiences shape not only your work ethic but also your mindset. One aspect that really stood out for me was the growth in communication skills. Initially, I was quite shy about talking to strangers, but working front-line jobs like food and beverage services pushed me out of my comfort zone. This has been invaluable, as I now find it easier to connect with people in all areas of life. Managing stress is another vital skill I picked up. Some jobs had challenging management or hectic environments, which at times felt overwhelming. However, learning to prioritize tasks and stay calm under pressure has prepared me well for adult responsibilities and even my current healthcare job. Speaking of healthcare, assisting in clinics and doing nursing locum work introduced me to the importance of empathy and prioritization in a fast-paced setting. This line of work has been rewarding financially and personally, and it also helped me appreciate the kind of jobs that provide valuable exposure to real-world situations. Beyond work, these jobs instilled a strong sense of money awareness early on—saving, budgeting, and resisting splurging. I've been learning to strike a balance now between earning through hustle and making my money work for me via investments. It’s about working smart as well as hard. Lastly, having a variety of jobs has also made me appreciate that it’s okay not to stick to one path. Each experience adds to your skills and teaches something new. If you’re a teen or young adult looking to explore part-time work, I’d encourage you to try different roles. The lessons and confidence you gain extend far beyond the paycheck and will continue benefiting you throughout life.
