I Built a Forever Home for 60 Rescue Cats 🐱

I tore down everything… just to rebuild a better life for 60 rescued cats.

After years of moving from place to place, being misunderstood, and struggling to provide stability, I finally found a yard I could call home, for them. I signed a 10-year lease without hesitation, because for these cats, 10 years is their entire lifetime.

This space was abandoned and overgrown, and transforming it into a safe cat shelter wasn't easy. From clearing weeds for a full week to building walls, installing cat facilities, and designing a feeding area called 'Mimi Canteen,' every step took time, effort, and heart. I even added small details like anti-rust roofing, safe edges, climbing stairs, and scratching posts to make sure every cat is safe and comfortable.

Some of these cats are disabled, sick, or unwanted, like a three-legged cat, or one who suffered severe injury. They are the ones most people overlook, but they deserve the most love.

This journey reminds me of animal rescue stories across the U.S., from Los Angeles shelters to independent rescuers in rural communities, people doing everything they can to give animals a second chance.

Now, when the light turns on in the yard, it means one thing: it's time to eat, and they are finally home.

If you believe every animal deserves love, support this journey.

Like ❤️, comment, share, and follow to help more stray cats find a home.

... Read moreBuilding a forever home for 60 rescue cats is more than just a physical renovation; it's an emotional commitment that requires resilience, patience, and love. From my personal experience, I can share that creating a safe and nurturing environment for cats, especially those with disabilities like a three-legged cat or one with facial injuries, demands thoughtful planning and constant adaptation. One vital lesson I learned during this journey is the importance of small but crucial details. For example, installing scratching posts wrapped with rope not only provides stimulation for the cats but also helps protect the wood from damage. Ensuring safe edges by covering rough surfaces with wood prevents injuries, especially for cats recovering from trauma. Designing mini staircases and ramps allows smaller or disabled cats to access feeding areas without stress. Cleaning and preparing the yard was arduous, taking an entire week to clear overgrown weeds and debris, yet it was necessary to create a comfortable space. Hiring skilled workers for heavy tasks like wall-building helped speed up the project, but the emotional support for anxious cats during transitions was equally important. Allowing them fresh air while ensuring they don’t escape showed how much attention to detail is needed. Moreover, ensuring durability by using anti-rust paint and protective coatings guarantees the shelter withstands weather for many years, reflecting a long-term commitment to these animals. Unexpected incidents, like a weasel entering the yard, taught me to be proactive in safeguarding the cats by adding protective measures, including geese as natural guardians. The feeding area, affectionately called 'Mimi Canteen,' symbolizes more than a place to eat—it’s a safe haven where cats know they belong. That moment when the light turns on, signaling feeding time, is a poignant daily reminder that these once-homeless cats now have security and love. This endeavor also highlights the broader community of animal rescuers, from big city shelters to rural volunteers, who tirelessly work to give every animal a chance. Support from fellow cat lovers is crucial, whether through donations, gifts, or simple encouragement. For anyone considering helping rescue cats, it’s a challenging but profoundly rewarding experience that changes both lives and perspectives.
