Obi Benjamin ❤️
So many of you have asked me about Obi Benjamin's personality, and honestly, he's truly one-of-a-kind! He's what I lovingly call my 'big but shy' guy. On the outside, he might seem a bit reserved, especially when meeting new people or in unfamiliar places. He's not the type to rush up for pets right away, but once you earn his trust, prepare for the most loyal and affectionate companion you could ever ask for. It's funny, sometimes I catch him just sitting, staring intently, and I swear he's 'plotting his next move.' It's usually something hilarious, like figuring out the best way to steal a rogue crumb from the kitchen floor without me noticing, or strategically positioning himself for the ultimate sunbeam nap. I often joke that he's either planning 'world domination' or, more likely, just a really, really good 'nap.' His shyness isn't about being scared; it's more about being thoughtful and observant. He takes everything in before deciding how to react, which I actually find quite endearing. Living with a 'big but shy' dog like Obi has taught me so much. For instance, understanding his body language is key. A tucked tail, avoiding eye contact, or slight ear twitch might signal he's feeling overwhelmed. Instead of forcing interactions, I've learned to give him space and let him approach on his own terms. Positive reinforcement, with lots of treats and praise, has worked wonders in building his confidence. We started with short, positive encounters with new people in quiet environments, gradually increasing exposure as he became more comfortable. One of the biggest joys is watching him blossom. When he finally decides to lean his big head against my lap or gently nudge my hand for a pet, it feels incredibly special. These moments are so much more meaningful because you know they come from a place of genuine trust. He might not be the life of the party at the dog park, preferring a quiet sniff around the perimeter, but at home, he's pure joy. He loves his squeaky toys, enjoys a good game of hide-and-seek, and his cuddles are legendary. If you have a 'big but shy' dog, remember that patience is your best friend. Don't rush them, celebrate every small victory, and always provide a safe, calm space for them to retreat to. They might not be the most outgoing, but their quiet strength and deep affection make them truly remarkable companions. Obi Benjamin certainly fills my life with so much love and laughter, even when he's just quietly 'plotting' his next big snooze!
