I made these Pokéball Cake Pops as requested for my nephews birthday party. This is my second attempt at making these.. They were so unbelievably delicious 🤤 I’m glad everyone got to enjoy them as much as I did. I’ll definitely be making more in the future!
How do you think they turned out?!

• 1 15 oz white cake mix (replace water in recipe for milk!)
• 10 oz pack chocolate melting wafers
• 10 oz pack white chocolate melting wafers
• 10 oz pack red chocolate wafers
• 1 stick salted butter 🧈
• 1 tsp vanilla
• 1 tbsp heavy cream

• Smarties
Instructions: ⏲️
BUTTERCREAM
- In a medium bowl whip together room temp butter. Add 1 cup of powdered sugar and mix until combined. Add your vanilla and remaining powdered sugar slowly. Add heavy cream and mix it until it’s smooth!
CAKEPOPS
1. After baking white cake and letting cool slightly crumble into fine crumbs using a mixer. Add 2 tbsp of buttercream to the mix gradually adding more until your cake holds. (I did 6)
2. Use cake pop press to cut out the disks! (So much easier)
3. Dip each lollipop stick in chocolate before the center of the cake pop and let freeze for an hour.
4. Dip each pop into the chocolate and tap away the excess. Allow chocolate to set before adding details!
... Read moreMaking these Poké Ball cake pops was such a fun adventure, and I learned so many little tricks along the way that I just have to share! If you're looking to create these epic Pokémon treats, here are some extra tips that truly made a difference for me, especially for getting that professional, finished Poké Ball look.
First off, getting the cake pop consistency just right is key. After you've crumbled your baked white cake, don't rush adding the buttercream. I found it's best to add it gradually, tablespoon by tablespoon, mixing until the cake mixture holds together when you squeeze it but isn't overly sticky. You'll know it's perfect when you can easily roll it into a ball without it crumbling or leaving too much residue on your hands. If it's too dry, your cake pops might fall off the stick; too wet, and they'll be hard to coat smoothly.
Speaking of sticks, that little trick of dipping the lollipop stick in melted chocolate before inserting it into the cake pop disk? Absolutely non-negotiable! That chocolate acts like glue, creating a strong bond that prevents your precious cake pops from taking an unexpected dive into the melting pot. And freezing them for an hour as instructed is crucial – it really helps them firm up and hold their shape during the dipping process. I learned this the hard way on my first attempt!
Now, for the fun part: dipping and decorating those iconic red, white, and black chocolate layers! I found that using a deep, narrow mug for melting your wafers works wonders. It allows you to fully submerge the cake pop quickly and efficiently, minimizing the time it spends in the warm chocolate, which helps prevent cracking later. When tapping off the excess, be gentle but firm. A good tap ensures a smooth, even coating without thick drips. For the black stripe and the central white button, I actually used a small piping bag (or even a Ziploc bag with a tiny corner snipped off) for the black line – it gives you so much more control than just drizzling. For the white button, a Smartie is perfect, but a small dot of white chocolate also works beautifully. Seeing the individually wrapped, finished Poké Ball cake pops at the end made all the effort worth it!
Don't be afraid to experiment with different cake flavors too! While white cake is a classic base, a chocolate or even a funfetti cake mix could add an extra layer of surprise. And if you're feeling extra creative, you could try making other Pokémon characters! Pikachu or Eevee cake pops would be adorable, though a bit more intricate for decoration. Just imagine a whole tray of different Pokémon-themed cake pops!
Once they're done, how do you store them? I keep mine in an airtight container in the fridge. They stay fresh and delicious for several days, though honestly, they usually disappear much faster than that! For a party, arranging them upright on a foam block covered with tissue paper, just like the image of the multiple cake pop disks, makes for a stunning display. It really elevates the presentation and makes them look super professional. I hope these extra tips help you catch 'em all with your own amazing Poké Ball cake pops!
OMG these are absolutely adorable and look so yummy! I bet your nephew loved them!
