it’s not a you problem …
well not REALLYYY 👀 we need to stop comparing our hobbies like it’s our job!!! a hobby is meant to be calming and help us destress, not serve as a second job!!! once you shift that mindset, suddenly that hobby feels so much more free - trust meeee
do you relate? have you been in the creative trenches like me? lmkkk !!
Many of us dive into hobbies with the eager expectation of becoming instantly skilled or even turning them into a business. However, this pressure can quickly transform what should be a relaxing pastime into a stressful obligation. From my experience, the key is to remind yourself that hobbies are for personal enjoyment, not for comparison against seasoned pros on social media. When I started crochet, I loved the craft but felt overwhelmed by the need to create perfect products for selling. It wasn’t until I intentionally stopped focusing on perfection and external expectations that I could truly enjoy the process again. This shift in perspective helped me reconnect with the essence of a hobby—it’s supposed to bring calm, creativity, and personal satisfaction. Avoid comparing your progress to others, especially those with years of experience showcased online. Social media often presents a highlight reel, not the realistic struggles behind mastering a new skill. Instead, focus on your own growth, no matter how small. If you feel a hobby turning into a chore, it’s okay to take a break or explore other activities without guilt. The goal is to destress and have fun, not to produce flawless results or keep up with anyone else. Remember, simply spending time on your hobby with a relaxed mindset is enough to reap the mental health benefits it offers. Embrace imperfections and enjoy your unique creative journey. Your hobby doesn’t have to prove anything or generate income. It’s all about adding a joyful, stress-free element to your life.
