Photos taken by Joseph Baron in 2017 styled by me
Joseph was having an open call for dark skin models on IG so you know I slid in his DM’s like 👋🏿 lol. For this shoot he wanted me to wear yellow so I styled myself in this Yellow Top from @zara, Ankara Pants that my mom @toybeck01 got made for me in Nigeria, White Mules from @zara and Joseph had jewelry options available for me to choose from to finish the look. I remember being told that dark skin ppl can’t pull off bright colors but the gag is it’s the 21st century boo and we can do absolutely anything, okayy. ⠀ ⠀

In today's fashion landscape, representation matters more than ever. Stylists and models alike are challenging old stereotypes about skin tone and color choices. Bright colors like yellow, which I wore for this shoot, have become favorites for many dark-skinned individuals, embracing a vibrant aesthetic that defies outdated norms. Supporting African print businesses is also essential for a more inclusive fashion world. Brands focusing on authentic designs not only celebrate culture but also empower local artisans. By mixing classic styles with contemporary trends, these businesses create garments that are both stylish and meaningful. For those seeking more vibrant outfits, consider pairing bold colors with African prints or accessories to create unique looks. Fashion is about expression, and everyone, regardless of skin tone, should feel empowered to wear what they love. Keep pushing boundaries, and remember to show love for brands that champion diversity in fashion!
