Hey Lemon8 fam! I wanted to share a bit more about my latest artwork, especially for those of you who appreciate the deeper, more introspective side of art. My original post was just a quick share, but I truly believe there's so much more to explore when it comes to dark aesthetic drawings and how they can connect with our emotional health. For me, a dark aesthetic isn't about being gloomy; it's about embracing the shadows and finding beauty and truth within them. It’s an alternative way of seeing the world, acknowledging that life isn't always bright and cheerful, and that's okay. It’s a space where vulnerability can truly shine, allowing us to process complex emotions through creativity. I've found that when I lean into this style, my art becomes a powerful tool for self-expression, far beyond just pretty pictures. This particular piece, my black ink drawing on lined paper, really came from a place of contemplation. I was thinking a lot about challenges and perseverance, and that's when the quote from Nelson Mandela, "It always seems impossible until it's done," resonated deeply. I wanted to pair that powerful message with imagery that felt both dark and hopeful. That's why I chose stylized sunflowers. Sunflowers are typically seen as symbols of joy and light, always turning towards the sun. But what if they're in a darker setting? They still strive, they still endure. The two sunflowers, one with big, dark eyes and the other with a gentle smile, represent that duality – the struggle and the eventual peace, the impossible journey and the triumph. Creating this drawing was a very personal process.
