11 days without food to treat my SIBO/IMO… and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t dreaming about the eggs, potatoes, and chicken sausage I’m eating Monday morning when I’m done.

this is my second time doing the elemental diet, so I wanted to share some tips if you’re considering or currently doing the elemental diet to treat your SIBO/IMO:

◾️order samples before committing to a full kit (this matters more than you think)… I’m using MBiota this time and did half original flavor and half orange flavor.

◾️ taste matters… if it’s bad, it will make this 10x harder

◾️ shake it with ice after mixing… cold = way more tolerable

◾️ use a shaker bottle, not a spoon (texture is everything)

◾️ don’t think about the full 2 weeks… just get through today

◾️ stay busy… boredom = thinking about food nonstop

◾️have one thing to look forward to every day

◾️ expect die off symptoms… it means it’s working, but it can feel rough. Highly recommend having activated charcoal on hand that helps absorbs the toxins being released.

◾️ remind yourself why you started when it gets hard

◾️ it gets easier as your body adjusts (even if it doesn’t feel like it at first)

if you’re going through this right now… you’re not alone and my DMs are always open if you have any questions🤍 #elementaldiet #sibo #sibotreatment #guthealth

... Read moreHaving gone through the elemental diet twice now, I can honestly say preparing mentally and physically is key to success. The first few days are often the hardest because your body is adjusting to the drastic change, and cravings for solid food like eggs, potatoes, or chicken sausage can be intense. One thing that helped me immensely was ordering sample flavors before committing to a full kit. This way, I could identify a flavor I found easier to tolerate, such as the orange-flavored MBiota, which made the process less daunting. Mixing the elemental formula with ice and using a shaker bottle instead of a spoon significantly improved the texture and taste, making it more refreshing and manageable. Staying busy throughout the day was another helpful strategy; boredom can amplify hunger pangs and obsessing over food. I made sure to have something small and non-food related to look forward to daily, which helped keep my spirits up. It's also important to acknowledge that die-off symptoms are part of the healing process when clearing bacterial overgrowth. These symptoms can feel unpleasant, but having activated charcoal on hand can help absorb toxins released during this phase. Reminding myself why I started the diet—my goal to restore gut health and alleviate debilitating symptoms—helped me push through tough moments. Remember, you don’t have to think about the entire duration at once; focusing on getting through one day at a time makes the elemental diet mentally manageable. As your body adjusts, the process generally becomes easier. For anyone tackling the elemental diet for SIBO or IMO, know you are not alone—the community of those undergoing similar journeys can offer invaluable support and encouragement.
