Skin tint has caught me by surprise especially when @REFY came out with their very own! I got a neutral shade for my dark skin! #blackgirlmakeup #refybeauty #refybeautyskint #skintintreview #highendskintint
So, the Refy Skin Tint has been all over my feed, and I finally caved! As someone always on the hunt for a good base product that works for dark skin, I was super excited when they dropped their own. I picked up a neutral shade, hoping it would be that perfect everyday tint – something to just even things out without feeling heavy. For this review, I decided to go completely rogue from my usual routine. I made sure to use no primer or skincare before adding this to my face. My goal was to see exactly how the tint performed on its own, without any interference. My skin was just cleansed and patted dry, ready for a raw assessment. Upon application, I started with my fingers, then used a brush. The coverage is definitely on the lighter side, as expected from a skin tint. However, I noticed pretty quickly that you can still see my hyperpigmentation peeking through. For me, that’s fine for a 'no makeup' makeup day – it’s not promising full coverage, leaning more towards a blurring effect. The biggest surprise, and not in a good way, was the texture. As I blended it out, I saw that for some odd reason, it's a little splotchy on the skin. It wasn't adhering smoothly in certain areas, almost as if it was clinging to microscopic dry patches or just refusing to spread evenly across my face. I tried patting, buffing, and even adding a tiny bit more product, but some areas just looked noticeably uneven. This was a real head-scratcher and something I didn't anticipate from a higher-end tint, making me wonder if it was my application method, the lack of skin prep, or the formula itself. I did my makeup at 9 am that morning, giving me a full day to rigorously test its wear. The initial splotchiness didn't magically disappear, but it also didn't get drastically worse. It settled a little as it warmed up on my skin, but the unevenness remained. On the positive side, it didn't feel heavy or uncomfortable. By late afternoon, it had faded somewhat, particularly around my T-zone. There wasn't any significant creasing, but the initial patchy application was still the most prominent observation. So, after truly putting the Refy Skin Tint through its paces, what's my honest verdict? It’s definitely a mixed bag for me. On one hand, I appreciate the natural, light coverage concept, and finding a neutral shade that works for dark skin is always a win. But the splotchy application was a significant drawback that made me question its overall ease of use. Who might love it: If you have naturally very even skin tone, minimal texture, and just want a subtle blur for a 'my skin but better' look, this might still be worth trying. It could also appeal to those who don't mind a very sheer veil and prioritize a lightweight feel. Considerations for others: If you have any noticeable texture, dry patches, or significant hyperpigmentation you want to cover, you might find yourself needing more. My recommendation would be to ensure your skin is impeccably prepped and hydrated before applying – perhaps even reconsidering my 'no primer' rule for this one! Experimenting with different application tools (fingers, brush, sponge) might also yield different results depending on your skin type and preferences. It seems like a tint that truly puts your skin prep to the ultimate test!
