On March,12th heaven gained an angel. My beloved grandfather the one who helped raised me, the one who brought my grandmother and biological father to America to escape the Khmer Rouge, the one who fought in the Vietnam War, the one who works at the US Embassy and sponsored several Cambodian Refugees. He was more than just a grandfather he was like a father to me and has done so much for me and our family. He made sure everyone was taken care of. He inspired me to become the man I am today and was my rock through the good and bad times. We went on multiple trips to our farm while growing up, hanging out at my grandmothers restaurant and making his and my grandmothers house (which they they’ve built back in 1979) my 2nd home and so many more. There are so many memories I’ve made with him and I will cherish every single one of them. Until we meet again grampa. 🙏❤️🕊️

My grampa was truly one of a kind, not just for our family, but for so many others whose lives he touched. When I think about his journey, from surviving the unimaginable horrors of the Khmer Rouge with my grandmother and father, to fighting in the Vietnam War, and then dedicating himself to helping Cambodian refugees through his work at the US Embassy, it's nothing short of extraordinary.
His story isn't just a personal family history; it's a testament to resilience, integrity, and the enduring power of human compassion in the face of immense adversity. I often reflect on what it must have taken for him to bring our family to America, to start anew, and then to extend that same lifeline to countless others. It wasn't just about providing physical safety; it was about offering hope, dignity, and a chance at a new beginning. These acts of courage and selflessness are the true cornerstones of our family's legacy, and they continue to inspire me every single day.
Growing up, I didn't fully grasp the weight of these experiences, but I felt their impact in his unwavering strength, his quiet wisdom, and his boundless love. The trips to our farm, the laughter at my grandmother's restaurant, and making their house a second home – these moments, seemingly simple, were built on a foundation of profound sacrifice and unwavering determination. They weren't just memories; they were lessons in perseverance, kindness, and the importance of family bonds.
For anyone navigating the loss of a beloved elder, I've found solace in holding onto their stories. Documenting these narratives, whether through conversations, old photographs, or simply sharing them with younger generations, ensures their spirit and lessons live on. My grampa taught me that life's challenges, no matter how great, can be overcome with courage and a strong heart. He instilled in me the value of looking out for others and the power of making a difference, even one life at a time. His legacy of service, courage, and unconditional love is something I strive to carry forward, ensuring that the impact of his incredible life continues to ripple through our family and beyond. Until we meet again, grampa, your memory shines bright.
