These are strontium-aluminate glow stone (photoluminescent stone).
They are not natural occurring but are really awesome additions to your crystal collection. I like to buy a couple every time I go to a gem and mineral show.
They will glow for 10-12 hours. I like to keep a jar of them by my bed for a soft light at night. They will change under bulbs or sunlight, they don’t even need direct contact with light.
They are made with strontium aluminate photoluminescent pigment and mixed into glass, ceramic, or resin then tumbled.
I can’t remember the exact name the vendor I usually buy them from called them but they go by glow stones, glow palm stones etc.
If you’re ever at a gem show you should get some. If they try to tell you that are natural, walk away. I think the cheapest I haggled for was 5$ but I have seen them priced as high a 20$.
Anyway, they are super smooth too making them also really nice to hold to help with anxiety or other nervous system upsets, hence the name “palm stone”.
... Read moreFrom my experience, strontium-aluminate glow stones truly add a magical touch to any crystal collection due to their unique glow-in-the-dark properties. These stones are crafted by combining strontium aluminate pigment—known for its high-performance phosphorescence—with materials like glass, ceramic, or resin, then carefully tumbled to create a smooth surface ideal for holding.
One of the best parts about these glow stones is their ability to absorb ambient light, not needing direct sunlight or intense bulbs to charge. This makes them perfect for placing by your bedside as a gentle, natural nightlight that lasts for up to 12 hours. The soft glow provides comfort in the dark, which I personally found helpful for creating a calming atmosphere conducive to relaxation and reducing nighttime anxiety.
At gem and mineral shows, you might notice that some vendors claim these stones are natural; however, they are man-made with photoluminescent pigments. Knowing this allows you to negotiate better prices and avoid overpaying—typically they cost between $5 and $20 depending on size and finish.
As palm stones, their tactile smoothness encourages a calming sensory experience. Holding these luminescent stones can help soothe nervous system upsets, proving beneficial for individuals seeking natural anxiety relief tools. I often keep a small jar near my bed not only for their radiant glow but because the touch helps me feel grounded.
If you’re a beginner or an experienced crystal enthusiast, adding strontium-aluminate glow stones to your collection brings both aesthetic beauty and therapeutic value. Plus, they offer an exciting, modern twist on traditional crystals and gems. Whether as a comforting nightlight or a calming palm stone, these pieces are a unique and practical choice for anyone interested in photoluminescent minerals and mindfulness through touch.
