To create a flat knot, you’ll need four cords:
The two outer cords will be your working cords.
The two middle cords will be your base cords.
Here’s the step-by-step:
1. Start the first half-knot (left side):
Take the left outer cord and cross it over the two center cords, forming a loop on the left.
Then, take the right outer cord, pass it over the end of the left cord, then under the center cords, and finally up through the left loop.
Pull both outer cords gently to tighten.
2. Complete the knot (right side):
Now take the right outer cord and cross it over the center cords, forming a loop on the right.
Then, bring the left outer cord over the end of the right cord, under the center cords, and up through the right loop.
Pull tight again. That completes one full flat knot.
3. Repeat the steps
Keep alternating sides: left, right, left, right... and you'll build a clean, flat knot pattern that’s great for bracelets, keychains, plant hangers or other DIY crafts.
