Made my first squishy ball :)

When I first decided to try making a DIY squishy stress ball, I quickly realized it wasn't as simple as just stuffing something into a balloon! My initial attempt definitely had its challenges. I want to share even more detailed tips and tricks I picked up, especially since my first squishy ball struggled with getting all the air out. If you're looking for that perfect, satisfying squish, here's what I’ve learned to help you avoid common pitfalls and create your own awesome stress reliever. Choosing Your Materials Wisely Balloons: The type of balloon really matters. Thicker, good-quality latex balloons are your best bet. Avoid thin party balloons as they're more prone to bursting, especially with firmer fillers. Some people even use heavy-duty water balloons for extra durability. I found that using slightly larger balloons than you think you need gives you more room to work and less chance of overfilling. Fillers: This is where the magic happens! Flour or Cornstarch: These give a smooth, dough-like squish and are great for that 'slow-rising' feel. They're what I used for my first squishy ball. Water Beads: If you love a unique, gel-like texture, water beads are fantastic. Just make sure they're fully hydrated before putting them in the balloon. Sand or Rice: These offer a grittier, heavier feel. Slime or Gels: For a truly gooey experience! Small Foam Balls/Scraps: If you're aiming for a 'foam ball squishy' effect, these are ideal, but you might need a larger balloon or even a fabric pouch inside the balloon for the best results. My Air-Out Dilemma & Solutions My biggest hurdle, as I mentioned, was that I failed at making my 1st squishy ball properly because *I couldn't take the air out*! This resulted in a lumpy, half-squishy mess. Here’s how I finally solved it, and what I recommend: The Funnel Trick: Always use a funnel or a cut-off plastic bottle top to guide your filler into the balloon. This keeps the neck open and makes pouring much easier, reducing air entrapment. The Rubber Band Revelation: This was my game-changer! After filling the balloon partially, I decided to use a rubber band tightly around the balloon's neck, just above the filler. This holds the filler in place, allowing you to carefully stretch and flatten the empty part of the balloon to push out any trapped air. Then, remove the rubber band, add more filler, and repeat if necessary. Gentle Rolling: Once filled, before tying, gently roll the balloon on a flat surface. This can help coax any stubborn air bubbles towards the opening. Assembling Your Squishy Ball Once you've got your filler in and most of the air out, it's time to tie it off securely. Stretch the balloon neck, twist it a few times, and tie a tight knot as close to the filler as possible. For extra security, especially with liquids or small beads, you can double-tie it or even put the entire filled balloon inside a second, empty balloon (double-bagging!). This really helps prevent leaks and extends its life. Enjoying Your Creation After all that effort, the best part is finally getting to squish it! Mine made such a satisfying sound when I squeezed it – I truly *love the sound*! It’s incredible how quickly these DIY creations become a go-to for stress relief.
