Chicago Day 1
📍 Destination: Chicago, Illinois
✨ What to do: Bring your walking shoes! You can walk just about anywhere if you stay downtown but walking shoes are necessary!
We walked to It’s Sugar, the Harry Potter store and the Starbucks Reserve Roastery on day 1. It was raining and cold but we still chose to get out and see a few things. From my understanding, Chicago weather is finicky so you have to be prepared for everything!

Visiting Chicago on a rainy and cold day can be challenging, but it also offers a unique experience of the city’s vibrant downtown atmosphere. When I explored Chicago, I found that layering your clothing and bringing waterproof gear really helped manage the unpredictable weather. Walking is truly the best way to discover the city’s hidden gems, especially downtown, where many attractions are within easy reach on foot. Planning your route ahead can maximize your time, so try grouping destinations like It’s Sugar, the Harry Potter store, and the Starbucks Reserve Roastery together for one fun-filled day. These spots not only offer great treats and souvenirs but also a chance to experience Chicago's lively culture. Don’t forget to check the local weather forecast frequently and carry an umbrella or raincoat, as Chicago’s weather can change quickly. Another tip is to pause at local coffee shops or indoor spots when the weather turns harsh—Chicago’s cafes offer cozy environments perfect for warming up. Overall, embracing the weather and exploring on foot provides a genuine feel of Chicago’s urban charm. Whether it rains or shines, your day will be filled with discovery and memorable moments in this iconic city.
