How to set standards high since young:
1. I always make Korkor take care of Meimei so she knows she's always safe with him
2. I make sure my husband takes care of me first before the kids (super important!) and we always emphasize that it's "Daddy + mummy first, THEN the kids", not the other way around.
This 2 rules are always repeated at home, and asserted in front of the kids, family members and friends so everyone knows the standards we set. There's no negotiation around it.
This 2 tips may sound simple but not always easy to implement but just hold your ground and it becomes the norm over time! ✨

Setting high standards for our children early on can be a game changer for their future relationships and self-esteem. One practical approach I've found effective is involving older siblings in caregiving roles, like having Korkor take care of Meimei. This not only creates a secure environment for the younger child but also fosters a sense of responsibility and empathy in the elder sibling. Another vital lesson is prioritizing the parents' relationship. When parents put each other first—daddy and mummy before the kids—it models respect and partnership. This priority setting helps the entire family function harmoniously and teaches children what healthy relationships look like. Implementing these rules can be challenging at first, especially when old habits or external opinions clash with your standards. The key is consistent communication and unwavering commitment to your family values. By repeatedly asserting these priorities in front of children, relatives, and friends, they become an integral part of family culture. From personal experience, once these norms are internalized, children grow up with clearer expectations for themselves and others. They learn to demand respect and care in their future relationships because they witnessed it modeled at home. Moreover, these practices encourage emotional security and trust within the family, elements essential for kids to develop confidence and set their own high standards. Ultimately, setting "Daddy + mummy first, THEN the kids," isn't just about who gets attention first; it's about teaching children the foundational concept of mutual respect and healthy boundaries that will benefit them for life.
