Been waiting for this local peruvian restaurant to open up near our place and it finally did!! The hours are a little funky so be aware if you are wanting to go after work on a weekday. They pretty much only sell pollo a la brasa but I really enjoyed my meal.
Highly recommend trying the chicha morada. It’s hard to find a good one that doesn’t taste like powder🤩🤩
📍Pontu - Santa Monica, Ca
As someone who enjoys exploring authentic Peruvian cuisine, I was thrilled to try Pontu in Santa Monica, especially since options for genuine Pollo a la Brasa in LA are limited. The restaurant’s hours are a bit unusual, so I recommend planning your visit accordingly—especially if you're coming after work on a weekday. Pollo a la Brasa is a classic Peruvian roasted chicken dish known for its crispy skin and juicy, flavorful meat, often marinated with distinctive spices. Pontu nails this dish with perfectly seasoned chicken that reminded me of time spent in Peru eating street food. It's simple yet incredibly satisfying. What really stood out to me was their chicha morada, a traditional Peruvian purple corn drink. Many places substitute the real thing with an artificial powder mix, but Pontu’s version was fresh and vibrant, with just the right balance of spices like cinnamon and cloves. It’s a refreshing beverage that perfectly complements the rich flavors of the chicken. If you’re visiting LA and craving a true taste of Peru, Pontu is definitely worth a stop. The intimate, casual atmosphere paired with authentic dishes makes for a delightful dining experience. Plus, it’s great to support local spots bringing diverse flavors to our city. For those interested in pairing recommendations, the Peruvian green sauce (ají verde) offered here enhances the chicken beautifully. Also, don’t hesitate to ask the staff for their favorite menu tips—they are knowledgeable and passionate about the food. Overall, Pontu offers a solid introduction to Peruvian cuisine that many Angelenos will appreciate. If you love mukbang videos or simply exploring foodie destinations in LA, this small restaurant should be on your radar!
