NYC’s Must-Try Vegan 🫶Sichuan Restaurant! 🌶️

If you’re craving something spicy and flavorful, this vegan Sichuan spot in New York is a game-changer! It’s so good, it might even outshine meat dishes!

Here’s what we tried:

• Vegan “Lazi Chicken”: Made with crispy, chewy tofu that’s packed with flavor and spice.

• Red Oil Dumplings: Filled with vermicelli and wood ear mushrooms, these dumplings have a meaty taste, even though they’re all veggie!

• Vegan “Beef” Stir-Fry: Reminds you of a spicy mala stir-fry, every bite is full of bold flavor.

• Fried Mushrooms: The sweet sauce complements the crispy mushrooms perfectly.

• Homemade Vegan Sauces: Take the flavor home and recreate these dishes with their bottled sauces.

For those looking for delicious vegan twists on Sichuan classics, Spicy Moon is a must-try!

... Read moreOkay, so after my last post about Spicy Moon East Village, I just had to dive a little deeper because I've been getting so many questions about finding truly great vegan Sichuan food in NYC! This place isn't just good for vegan food; it’s genuinely one of the best Chinese restaurants I've tried, period. The vibrant pink and green decor immediately sets a fun, inviting tone, making it a perfect spot for a casual dinner or a celebration. Let’s talk about those dishes again, because they're truly unforgettable. The Vegan 'Lazi Chicken' (which I rated 9/10!) isn't just crispy tofu; it's perfectly seasoned, bursting with that signature Sichuan peppercorn tingle (ma la!), and has a satisfying chewiness that honestly rivals traditional chicken. It's truly a must-order if you love spice and texture. Then there are the Red Oil Dumplings – another 9/10 for me! Filled with vermicelli and wood ear mushrooms, they manage to hit a savory, almost 'meaty' note that surprises you. The chili oil they swim in is perfectly balanced, spicy without being overwhelming, and incredibly aromatic. I could eat a dozen of these! And for those who love a good stir-fry, the Vegan 'Beef' Stir-Fry is fantastic. It captures that deep, rich umami flavor with plenty of spice and fresh veggies. It's hearty and satisfying, especially if you're looking for something substantial. Don't overlook the Fried Mushrooms either; they might sound simple, but the sweet sauce they come coated in is addictive, making them an excellent counterpoint to the spicier dishes. They're crispy on the outside and tender inside – perfection! A little insider tip for navigating the menu: don't be afraid to ask about spice levels! While Sichuan food is known for its heat, the staff at Spicy Moon are usually great at guiding you. Also, they offer their homemade vegan sauces bottled, which is genius! I grabbed a bottle on my way out to try recreating some of those incredible flavors at home. It’s a fantastic way to extend the experience. I know some of you might be looking for a fantastic Chinese restaurant in Queens or other boroughs, but if you're in Manhattan or willing to travel a bit, Spicy Moon is absolutely worth the trip. And for those wondering about the Spicy Moon West Village menu, while my review was for the East Village location, their West Village spot offers a very similar, equally delicious menu. So no matter which side of town you're on, you can get your fix of incredible vegetarian Szechuan. It really is a game-changer for plant-based dining in NYC!
