NYC’s Must-Try Cured Duck Claypot Rice✨!!

My bestie is on a mission to try every duck in NYC, so I had to bring her to FiDi for this one! We went all in—a whole roast duck + a bunch of dishes, and it was so satisfying!

➡️ Whole Roast Duck for $88

Not only did we get beautifully sliced roast duck, but they also served a smoky cured duck—which I LOVED! Haven’t had this flavor anywhere else. They even used the duck bones to make a rich, hearty soup with barley inside. So comforting!

➡️ The Claypot Rice Stole the Show

I’m obsessed with cured duck & Chinese sausage claypot rice—the flavors were spot on, and every grain of rice was perfectly infused with that savory goodness. Just watch out for tiny bones in the cured duck!

➡️ Tableside Tiramisu

Towards the end, we saw a dessert cart rolling up to a nearby table and had to get one too! It’s freshly made tiramisu—ladyfingers soaked in rich espresso, bursting with flavor in every bite. Such a nice surprise!

They also have Happy Hour (5-7 PM, weekdays) with cocktails & small bites. Great vibes, perfect for date night!

While my recent visit to GOLDEN WUISH (THE DUCKHOUSE) blew me away with their incredible cured duck claypot rice and crispy roast duck, I wanted to share a bit more about what makes these dishes so special in the city. Let's talk about cured duck claypot rice. This dish is a true comfort food masterpiece, and finding a good one in NYC is a game-changer. What I absolutely adore is how every single grain of fluffy rice at the bottom of the claypot gets perfectly infused with that savory goodness from the cured duck and *Chinese sausage*. The magic happens when the rice, duck, and sausage caramelize slightly against the hot clay, forming a delicious, crispy crust. It’s not just about the duck; it’s the whole symphony of flavors, often garnished with vibrant green vegetables that add a fresh counterpoint. My tip? Don't be shy about scraping every last bit from the bottom – that's where the best textures are! Then there's the classic roast duck, a staple of Cantonese cuisine that NYC does exceptionally well. At GOLDEN WUISH, the sliced roast duck was a highlight. When you're looking for quality roast duck, you want that beautiful, glossy, crispy-skinned exterior, giving way to succulent, tender meat inside. The dipping sauce, often a rich plum sauce or a savory soy-based concoction, is crucial; some even come with sesame seeds for an added crunch. I always look forward to wrapping pieces of the duck in delicate duck pancakes with fresh cucumber strips – it creates a perfect balance of rich and refreshing flavors. It's a different experience from Peking duck, which is often about the skin and tableside carving; Cantonese roast duck celebrates the entire flavor profile of the bird. While the term 'Nasi Claypot' might bring to mind Malaysian or Indonesian versions, the Chinese claypot rice in NYC offers its own distinct charm, focusing on ingredients like cured meats and mushrooms, creating deep umami flavors. It's a testament to the diversity of Asian cuisine available here. Beyond the main dishes, a great duck spot often excels in its overall experience. From indulging in a unique tableside tiramisu to enjoying thoughtfully crafted cocktails during happy hour, these elements elevate a meal from good to unforgettable. The ambiance, like the warm lighting I noticed in the photos, can truly enhance the dining adventure. So, whether you're seeking the rich depth of a cured duck claypot or the satisfying crispness of a perfectly roasted duck, NYC has an incredible array of options waiting to be explored. Don't be afraid to try new spots and savor every bite!
