Best street food in Myeong-dong, Seoul

Here's everything I ate when I was in Myeong-dong!

... Read moreOh my goodness, exploring the street food scene in Myeongdong was an absolute highlight of my Seoul trip! After devouring delicious snacks like Tang Hulu (that sweet, crunchy fruit skewer is a must-try, though it can be a bit pricey at around 8000 won, it's worth it for the experience!), I realized there's so much more to know to make your street food adventure unforgettable. First off, timing is everything. While Myeongdong is bustling all day, the street food truly comes alive in the late afternoon and evening. That's when all the stalls are out, the smells are incredible, and the atmosphere is electric. It can get super crowded, especially on weekends, so if you prefer a slightly calmer experience, aim for a weekday evening. When it comes to payment, cash is king for most street food vendors. While some might accept card, it's always safest to have plenty of Korean Won on hand. I made sure to hit an ATM before heading out, and it saved me a lot of hassle. Don't be afraid to try new things! I loved the classic Hotteok, a sweet pancake filled with brown sugar syrup and nuts (only about 3000 won!), and the savory Fried Chicken skewers for 10,000 won were perfectly crispy. Even simple Fishcake skewers, at just 2000 won, are a comforting classic, especially on a chilly evening. Beyond the items I specifically tried, you'll find an incredible variety. Keep an eye out for Tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), Gyeranppang (fluffy egg bread), and various kinds of Mandu (dumplings). One thing I spotted but didn't get to try this time was the spiral potato on a stick – it looked amazing! And for dessert, if you're like me and love something sweet, the Nutella Souffle Pancake I had for 12,000 won was an indulgent dream. Navigating the stalls can be a bit overwhelming at first, but just go with the flow. Most vendors are friendly, and pointing to what you want works perfectly, even if there's a language barrier. Don't feel pressured to buy from the first stall you see; take a walk around first to see all the options and compare prices, as they can sometimes vary slightly. Also, remember that portions can be quite generous, so if you're with friends, it's a great idea to share a few items so you can taste more without getting too full too fast. My biggest tip? Come hungry, bring cash, and be ready for an incredible culinary journey in the heart of Seoul!
