Two West Point grads, one year, two very different milestones 🇺🇸 Class of ’94 & Class of ’17 (born in ’94 😂)
Having two West Point graduates from different eras in my family has given me a unique appreciation for The Long Gray Line and the traditions that continue to unite generations of cadets. The Class of '94 and Class of '17, though separated by more than two decades, both embody the resilience and dedication expected of every graduate. Growing up, I heard countless stories about the challenges faced by the Class of '94 — from rigorous academic demands to the intense physical training that shaped their character. It’s fascinating to see how those foundational experiences have evolved yet still remain true to the academy’s mission. By comparison, the Class of '17 encountered a different world, with new technologies, shifting geopolitical landscapes, and a growing emphasis on leadership in a digital age. Despite these changes, the core values of honor, duty, and country remain a steadfast bond linking these generations. One thing that stood out during family discussions was how both classes took pride in their identity — whether it was seen in the phrase “Born in ’94” or the deep connection to the #LongGrayLine. This continuity highlights the power of tradition alongside progress. Through this reflection, I’ve come to appreciate how West Point serves not just as a military academy, but as a lifelong community where shared experiences transcend time. Whether you’re a graduate or someone interested in military history, understanding these generational perspectives enriches how we view service and sacrifice in the United States Military Academy.
