Whether you're a beginner or an experienced paddler, there are options for everyone, from clear-bottom kayaks to stand-up paddleboarding, making it accessible and fun! And then, there's Maho Beach – prepare for an adrenaline rush like no other! This isn't just any beach; it's world-famous for its proximity to Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM). Imagine huge passenger jets flying just feet above your head as they come in for landing. It's absolutely breathtaking and a truly unique spectacle. We found a great spot near the Sunset Bar & Grill, which conveniently posts arrival and departure times on a surfboard. Waiting for a big plane to come in is half the fun; the roar of the engines and the incredible sight are something you have to experience to believe. Just a friendly warning: be mindful of the jet blast from departing planes. It can be quite powerful, so always pay attention to the warning signs and local advice. But truly, standing there, feeling the wind and hearing the engines, while snapping incredible photos, is a bucket-list moment. It’s loud, it’s thrilling, and it’s pure Sint Maarten magic! Both the peaceful kayak journey and the heart-pounding excitement of Maho Beach were highlights of my birthday getaway.
