Read more『鉄道員(ぽっぽや)』って「泣ける名作」って聞くことが多いので、初鑑賞の私は完全にその気持ちで観に行きました。ところが終わったあとに残ったのは、感動よりもじわっとした怖さ。「ぽっぽや 気持ち悪い」って検索される理由、ちょっとだけ分かった気がします。 私がホラーっぽく感じたのは、まず“音の少なさ”でした。雪の駅、人気のないホーム、会話が少ない空気感。高倉健さんの演じる乙松は表情を大きく動かさないぶん、こちらが勝手に感情を読み取ろうとして緊張するんですよね。静けさが美しいはずなのに、気づくと背筋が伸びてしまう、あの独特の間。 それと、雪景色の白さがきれいなのに「生きてる感じ」が薄いところ。雪って音を吸い込むし、景色も単色になるから、時間が止まったみたいに見える。駅という“人が行き交う場所”が、逆に“誰も戻ってこない場所”みたいに感じてしまって、私はそこが怖かったです。 あと印象に残ったのが、空の色が急に赤く見える瞬間。作中の空気が現実っぽいからこそ、色の変化が「境目」みたいに見えてドキッとしました。「赤い空 幻朋」みたいな言葉で探したくなるのも分かるというか、あれは説明されないぶん想像が膨らむんですよね。 もちろん、これは作品が悪いという話ではなくて、むしろ高倉健さんの存在感が強いからこそ起きる感覚だと思っています。優しさや不器用さが“静止画”みたいに固まって見える瞬間があって、それが人によっては「沁みる」になり、私みたいに「怖い」に振れるのかも。 ちなみに、ポスターで見る高倉健さんの笑顔(アップの写真)と、映画本編の硬い表情のギャップも結構大きいです。待ち受け画像で見かける“にこっとした健さん”を想像して観ると、作品の抑えたテンションにびっくりするかもしれません。 私は元々『新幹線大爆破』で高倉健さんを知ったので、動きのある緊迫感のイメージが強かったんですが、『鉄道員(ぽっぽや)』は逆に“動かなさ”で心を揺らしてくる作品でした。これから観る人は、泣ける準備だけじゃなく、静けさに包まれる準備もして行くと受け止めやすいと思います。
