9 Position used to palpate the pulse🫀

Pulse 🫀 is a measure of the heart rate through arterial contraction in the blood pump rhythm, which is very important in assessing early vital signs.

1.Temporal pulse: temporal area (face of the ear)

2.Carotid pulse: beside the throat (do not grope at the same time on both sides because it may not allow enough blood to feed the brain)

3.Apical pulse: chest top area (used to listen with disease monitoring headphones on the fifth rib channel position on the left)

4.Brachial pulse: Inner arm crook area (popularly used in babies or when measuring blood pressure)

5.Radial pulse: The outer wrist area (thumb side) is the most popular spot to use.

6.Femoral pulse: groin area

7.Popliteal pulse: knee crook area

8.Posterior tibial pulse: Inner papillary back area

9.Dorsalis pedis pulse: the back foot area

✅ how to palpate the pulse.

To achieve accurate results, the following procedures should be followed.

✌🏻 forefinger and middle finger: place the fingertips on the desired position (e.g. wrists)

❌ do not use the thumb because the thumb has its own pulse, which can confuse us with the patient's pulse.

👇🏻 press the weight to fit: Press it down gently until the rhythm is felt. If pressed too hard, it may obstruct the blood tract, causing it to become unpalpable.

⏱️ count time: If the pulse is even: count for 30 seconds and multiply by 2.

⏰ if the pulse is uneven: The full 1 minute must be counted.

❗️ observe characteristics: In addition to the number of times per minute, the strength and consistency of the rhythm should be observed.
