Cash Stuffing Method : My Family Binder

All right, so today we’re gonna be talking about my family binder. First, I would like to give a shout out to this beautiful pink Louis Vuitton inspired binder. It is so freaking cute! I got this binder from a website called beenrad . Definitely let the owner know that I sent you guys if you guys do purchase this binder.
This finder is specifically for personal and family related things. For those who do not know I am a mother of two girls and of course I want to provide the best life for them as much as I can so of course I want to better in regards to finances and their needs. There’s actually one more category. I do want to add to this binder, but I will do that down the road.
Now, if you are a family oriented, the whole point of this binder is to basically budget for your families and your personal expenses. On the post you will see that I have an envelope that is categorized for holidays. I always spend the holidays obviously with my family so that includes, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Fourth of July, New Year’s, etc. etc. I just recently added this envelope because me and my family tend to split cost for these holidays when we celebrate together.
Next, you’re going to see that I have my kids savings in here. I do this because my parents never got the chance to provide us something like this and this is something I’ve always wanted to do for my own kids. I want to set up my kids for success, and I also want to set up my kids to be financially Intelligent and will explain to them down the road why I save money and why it’s so important. I also have envelopes regarding my kids every day needs such as clothes, diapers, formula, fun, activities, etc. etc.. now I budget weekly to put a certain amount of money in my families savings, but when I reach a certain amount like $100 or $500 then and that’s that money into a high-yield savings account. If you guys do not have a high-yield savings account already you should because this year is probably the highest I’ve ever seen at a 4.5% rate. You’re basically getting paid to save money.
Finally, you guys will see that I have a Christmas envelope which is separate from the holiday envelope. The reason why I did that is because I prefer to start saving for Christmas in the beginning of the year so by then once I get to Christmas I have a set amount where I can spend money for my kids and my family. Plus in my family we have people whose birthdays are on Christmas . So I do this in advance just because he deserves it on envelope.
No not everyone needs a family binder. That’s why I also use this as a somewhat personal binder. I have some categories such as fun, meaning in regards to going to concerts or going on some fun festivals or fun activities. So if you guys don’t have a family or if you’re not family oriented, you can definitely make a personal binder and a category such as tattoos, concerts, holidays, parents, etc. etc. I feel like having a personal binder specially, if you’re in college or in school in general, where you don’t have any responsibilities yet, it’s perfect!

Think about your monthly bills, upcoming expenses, and even fun things you want to save for. These are essentially 'sinking funds' – money you set aside for specific, future expenses so you’re not caught off guard. For example, instead of scrambling for Halloween costumes or birthday gifts, I now have dedicated envelopes. Consider categories like 'Car Maintenance', 'Pet Care', 'Date Night', or even personal treats like 'Spa Day' or 'Tattoo Fund'. The key is to make it work for *you*. 'How to organize cash' within your binder is also crucial. I like to use clear, labeled envelopes for each category, just like the ones in my 'family binder' for my kids' savings or 'extra-curricular' activities. This keeps everything visible and tidy. When you stuff your cash, make sure to track it on a simple log sheet in each envelope or a separate tracker. This helps you know exactly how much is in each fund without having to count it every time. Security is also important – keep your binder in a safe, private place. If you’re looking for a boost, trying a 'cash stuffing challenge' can be incredibly motivating. There are 52-week challenges, $1,000 challenges, or even custom ones you can create. These structured challenges help you consistently save by gradually increasing amounts or targeting a specific goal. Finally, a major tip I’ve discovered, and it’s mentioned in my original post and OCR, is to utilize a 'high-yield savings account'. Once my physical envelopes reach a certain amount, like for my 'ANASTASIA’S SAVINGS' or when I've saved 'over $1,000 for Christmas', I transfer the bulk of that money into a high-yield account. This way, your money isn't just sitting idle; it’s actually earning interest, sometimes at rates like 4.5% or more! It’s like getting paid to save, which is an amazing feeling. By combining the hands-on control of cash stuffing with the growth potential of a high-yield account, you’re truly optimizing your financial journey. Give it a try and see how much more empowered you feel about your money!
