Skinny Girl Snacks 🍕
Rice cakes are my cheat code for so many things. I make sure to ALWAYS keep these in my pantry 👏
one mistake I often see when it comes to a higher influx of calories are the TOPPINGS. Yogurt bowls, rice cakes, homemade pizzas; these are all wonderful low cal options yes. However, when people load up their nonfat plain Greek yogurt bowl with bananas, nuts, chocolate, honey, granola, berries, and a mountain of peanut butter, you now have around 1000+ added calories.
DON’T GET ME WRONG. I’m not the calorie police. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that beautifully overloaded dessert bowl 🥣 I have one of those myself, every week. But everything good comes in moderation, and for my loves who need low cal snack options, this one is perfect for you 🫶
Use the toppings that you like best. I’ve made four different flavor combos here for inspo. My homemade “Nutella” is ground hazelnuts, unsweet dark cocoa powder, sea salt, and sugar free maple syrup. Happy holidays, to you and yours 🥰

Building on my love for rice cakes as a low-calorie base, I want to share even more tips and tricks I've learned to keep snack time exciting and guilt-free. It's all about making smart choices with your toppings, right? First off, let's talk about the rice cakes themselves. While plain rice cakes are fantastic, have you tried different flavors? Sometimes, a lightly salted or even a multigrain rice cake can add an extra layer of flavor without many added calories, giving your snack a head start. And don't be afraid to think beyond the square! Round ones work just as well and sometimes offer a different texture. When it comes to savory options, the possibilities are endless for low-calorie rice cake toppings. Beyond the delicious hummus crunch I shared (which often includes crisp cucumber and a zing of pickled onion – trust me, it’s a game-changer!), consider cottage cheese or Greek yogurt as a creamy base. You can then top it with everything from sliced cherry tomatoes and a sprinkle of everything bagel seasoning, to finely diced bell peppers and a dash of hot sauce. For a protein boost, a thin slice of lean turkey or even a few pieces of turkey pepperoni can turn your rice cake into a mini, satisfying meal. I've found that using spices like smoked paprika or garlic powder can really elevate these simple ingredients. Now, for those with a sweet tooth, it’s easy to fall into the trap of high-calorie add-ons. My homemade 'Nutella' (ground hazelnuts, unsweetened cocoa, sugar-free maple syrup) is a staple, but there are other fantastic low-calorie sweet combinations. Think about spreading a thin layer of PBfit mixed with a little water for a lower-fat peanut butter alternative. Then, instead of sugary jams, top it with a homemade blueberry compote, like I do – just berries simmered with a touch of stevia or a tiny bit of chia seeds for thickness. Or, for a truly simple treat, mashed banana with a sprinkle of cinnamon and a tiny drizzle of sugar-free syrup hits the spot every time. Sometimes, I even crumble a tiny piece of a low-calorie cookie on top of my sweet rice cakes for that 'Nutella cookie' vibe without overdoing it. Another pro tip for keeping things low-cal: portion control with those dense toppings. A little goes a long way with nuts, seeds, and even some dried fruits. Instead of loading them on, use them as a garnish for flavor and texture. And don't forget the power of fresh fruit! Thinly sliced apples, pears, or even kiwi can add natural sweetness and fiber without excessive calories. Ultimately, the goal is to make healthy eating enjoyable and sustainable. Rice cakes are such a versatile canvas for creativity. Experiment with different flavor profiles – sweet, savory, spicy, tangy – and discover your own favorite low-calorie rice cake combinations. It’s about finding what you love and making it work for your healthy lifestyle, one delicious, crunchy bite at a time!
