Fried Catfish inspired (lazy girl dinner)

fish n’ chips > chicken and waffles

Southern Fry Kings sent me a bag of their homemade fry mix and I KNEW immediately that I was making some fish and chips 🐠🍟

This craving had been on mind already for days and so now all I needed was to figure out how to add my own spin:

Crispy fish, batter fried with creole chicken coating, air fryer sea salt butternut squash fries, and an easy creamy dill sauce for dipping. Say less 😍

Read moreWhen it comes to reinventing fish n’ chips, using salmon instead of traditional white fish adds a rich flavor and a dose of omega-3 fatty acids, making the meal both tasty and nutritious. I found that coating the salmon fillets in Southern Fry Kings' homemade creole batter mix really elevates the dish with a crispy texture and a hint of spice that pairs wonderfully with the mild fish. To complement the fish, using butternut squash fries instead of classic potato chips not only adds a vibrant color to the plate but also increases the nutritional value. The natural sweetness of the butternut squash balanced with sea salt and a quick toss in olive oil makes for a perfect air fryer snack. Air frying at 400°F for about 15-20 minutes creates fries that are crispy on the outside and tender inside without excessive oil, keeping the meal lighter. A quick homemade creamy dill sauce ties everything together beautifully. Using simple ingredients like Greek yogurt, fresh dill, lemon juice, and a pinch of mustard or Dijon adds a refreshing tang that complements the spices in the batter and the sweetness of the fries. I like to keep the sauce easy to whip up—just a few minutes of mixing and it’s ready for dipping. Cooking this at home allows me to customize each element to my taste—whether it’s increasing the spice level in the batter or experimenting with different herbs in the dipping sauce. The ease and speed of preparation make this version of fish n’ chips a go-to recipe for weeknight dinners or casual eating with family and friends. Plus, the use of quality ingredients like the creole coating and fresh salmon ensures every bite is flavorful and satisfying. This unique approach to fish n’ chips has become a staple in my kitchen, especially when craving comfort food that’s both indulgent and wholesome. Whether you’re a fan of traditional recipes or looking to try something new and healthy, this dish offers a delicious balance of textures and flavors that’s sure to impress.
